Primer is primer, not paint, its meant to keep stuff from doing exactly this.

Also, I'd recommend a sealant if you weren't using one.

Yes, primer goes on first over the bare metal or plastic it helps the paint adhere.

I would suggest stripping the models and starting over... it sucks but its the only way.

Buy some simple green at your local home depot and mix it in a 1 to 1 ratio with tap water. Leave the models in overnight and brush them with an old toothbrush (or if you have a sister use her's ) come morning. The paint should just melt off if you're useing GW paints.

Though it will be more expensive I would suggest using a primer that is made for use on models as opposed to automotive primer.

you can use any matte black or matte white spray really. I use testors. You can get it like 40-50% off here in the u.s. at micheals and ac moore. You can also use krylon primer. I would stay away from GW. All there paints are way way overpriced. Just remember to hold the can back and no nice sweeping strokes from abut 10-12 inches away. Do a coat then let dry and repeat.

I use Testors Dull Coat Spray for sealing. Maybe 2 nice coats of it. My figures take long car rides and bounce a bit.

I have some skull white in a can from gw ( which cost me an arm and leg) is that what you are talking about? should i reallly worry about painting plastic with the primer ? Gw paint seems to be fine on them..

always use a primer yes. The skull white is a primer, and would work, though I suggest something cheaper next can (people have good results with 1$ cans from wal-mart).

Yeah, the purpose of the primer is to make the paint stick to the model - without it your paint will flake, on metal OR plastic.

GW primers are pretty good but pretty expensive. Krylon and Vallejo also do primers.

thats what i bought originally then someone told me to use the gw stuff...le sigh and my dragons look so nice... got tips on what color i should do their jewels? I used mordian blue as a base coat and added hawk turquoise three times using more hawk at the end . I thought of using red but i painted their eyes red which looks pretty awesome.

The only conceivable reason to use a GW paint or tool is that its the only place you can find the exact color and don't want to mix it. Use *anything* else.

Also of note, acrylic paints are *meant* to come off if applied to something other than primer. I just cleaned a wood desk, didn't even need soap.

Ive tried alot of different primers and so far the best ones I've come across are Krylon Ultra Flat Black spray paint and The Walmart brand Colorplace Grey Spray Primer. The Ultra Flat black has always gone on nicely and paint sticks to it very well, although it technically isn't classified as a primer it behaves like one. Most hardware stores will carry it for around 5 bucks a can ( i find mine at ACE). Now the Colorplace Grey Primer is a real find. $2 a can and it sticks to metal and plastic with a nice smooth finish and a great shade of grey. I just used it today to prime a bunch of Metal Tyranid Ravener Conversions and my new Helljack. Its really good stuff and easy to find.

I haven't had much luck with auto primers. Another good primer and overall good spray paint that seems to be acrylic based is Design Master Floral Colortool sprays. YOu can find these at your local A&C and they are reasonably priced and come in nice colors.

1. Wash, rinse and dry models carefully before painting. This is very easily done at low temperature in the dishwasher.

2. When painting, mount the models on a stand or grip so you don't have to touch them.

3. Use a proper primer coat. There are various types of spray and brush primer available. I use a generic medium grey spray from Rust-oleum for everything.

4. After painting, varnish the finished model.

Yeah, I use an Ace brand primer also. Works really well.

I would say in less you are in love with the models now. Put them in a 50/50 mix of simple green and water for a day. Take and old toothbrush clean them off. then Primer - Foundation - Wash - Paint - Wash - Highlights
