I've been using "Figure Flat" and absolutely loving it. Looks great, hasn't rubbed or scratched on me yet, and haven't had any problems even when I've used in it weather more humid than I should have.

I love my Testor's Dullcote.

Spray can: Testor Dullcote is the best. Easy to find too and not too expensive. I've tried the crafts brand spray varnishes ( folkart, Plaid.etc) and they all have different levels of matte and some really separate your colors but Dullcote always works flawlessly for me.

Brush on: Vallejo Matte Varnish if you can find it or order it online. The next best one for me has been Windsor Newton Galeria Matte Varnish. You get a huge bottle of it for about 15 bucks at most arts and crafts stores and the matte effect is flawless.( Both of these are great in an airbrush too)

hope this helps

Krylon was probably 3 bucks at wal-mart

Krylon Flat is probably the most cost-effective. It is half the cost per oz. of Testor's Dullcote and gives about half to two-thirds the effect. Still much better than GW's 'Matte' Varnish, which is semi-gloss at best.

But for the absolute best effect, there is nothing as good as Testors that I have found. Nothing.

Would like to point also that it is not just the product you use, but how you use it. Even if you use Testors Dulcote, if you overspray or underspray the model; it can lead to bad effects.

I've had no issues using Testors. Krylon and GW also worked, although I think the GW brand actually caused my colors to bleed a little bit.

My preference now is actually Valspar Satin Clearcoat. Absolutely love the stuff. It does have kind of a unique effect though, so you might want to test it on something before comitting. I don't think I can go back to matte.

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Is there a huge different between brush-on and spray-on, as far as quality of results goes?
