Seeing episodes of 'Band of Brothers' for the first time... pretty danged impressive... I'm definitely going to get this series on DVD... How is 'The Pacific'? If I like BoB would I enjoy 'The Pacific'?

My realm... I mean room.

I liked the Pacific, even though BoB was better in my opinion. Maybe because the setting in BoB is closer to home and the Pacific ocean is pretty far away.
Great music and the characters are interesting in both, some scenes made me sad to be honest, rarely happens.

I really, really struggled to get into The Pacific.
The characters were less likeable and the carnage much more 'in your face'.
There was plenty of character interrelationship, intersprersed with really intense action in BOB.
The Pacific had vast swathes of episodes of guys sitting around with diarrhoea then they would totally smack the Japanese.

It was slow in places, oddly it was as intended.

They shot it to emphise the fact it was a very slow war, with alot of downtime. It feels like that in places, the way the combat goes down as well.
They also seemed to skip around more, felt like it could have done with a couple of more episodes for certain battles.

On saying that, I did really enjoy it and plan on getting it on Blueray once it falls under the £20 level.

I really liked the Pacific.

I really would like to see similar series focussing not on US but on German, Italian, Soviet, Finnish, French or Polish Soldiers.

in BoB, you really got to know the characters, such us Gonear (gonerea), who was shot in backside to name just one, in the pacific it kept switching focuses from different people, and main characters kept dying, I just couldn't get into it.

You get to know the characters in the Pacific too. And the dying of main characters is it main strength not that Hollywood ,,Main Character Survives/Happy End" sickness that has nothing to do with war.

There is simply no contest: 'Band of Brothers' for the win. That said, I did enjoy 'The Pacific.

I would echo what another poster said - it would be great to see a series about WWII from the perspective of the British. Apparently Stephen Ambrose wrote a book called 'Pegasus Bridge' about the Paras. That would be awesome.

I almost always agree with Albatross, I can't see why anyone wouldn't.

Yeah I love to see a British one, thought that a few times, sadly I don't think anyone would cover the budget for such a venture.

The best thing I could hope for is a WW2 film with a strong British element.
Although I'm still waiting in vain for someone to do a modern film on the Battle of Kohima.

I did forget to say BoB was my fave of the two as well, already own that one on Blueray.

I think a series about the Somme would be amazing, and probably not that difficult to make. With advances in special effects, I don't think a British WWI/WII series should be out of the question. IIRC, most of the effects team on BoB were British - as well as the cast, of course...

I found Pacific very patchy. Band of Brother had a far more developed cast of characters and was to my mind the better series.

I'm not sure how exciting a series where just about everyone dies by climbing out of trenches and getting shot by machine guns set in a vast expanse of mud with intermittent artillery barrages will be.

Although 'Blackadder goes forth' made a damned good try at it.

IMHO from an Australian or UK perspective I'd like to see a series on Victoria Cross winners, the situation they were in and how they won their VCs with a little of their life beforehand and what came after.

For example Albert Jacka VC, MC and Bar at Gallipoli where he won the VC.

Jacka enlisted on 18 September 1914 as a private in the 14th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force, and trained at Broadmeadows camp.

His unit embarked on 22 December and spent two months training in Egypt before landing at Anzac Cove, Gallipoli Peninsula, on 26 April 1915.

Early on 19 May the Turks launched a massive counter-attack along practically the entire Anzac line. At about 4 am they rushed Courtney's Post. Amid frenzied fighting some Turks captured a twelve-yard section of trench, one end of which was guarded by Jacka.

For several minutes he fired warning shots into the trench wall until reinforcements arrived and, after shouting his instructions, he and three others sprang out into the trench. All but Jacka were immediately hit so he leapt back into the communication trench. A new plan was devised. Two bombs were lobbed at the Turks while Jacka skirted around to attack, from the flank. Amid the smoke and the noise he clambered over the parapet, shot five Turks and bayoneted two as the rest hastily retreated. 'I managed to get the beggars, Sir', he reputedly told the first officer to appear.

Half hour episodes.

Not sure how exciting some of the RAF ones would be but the army ones would be grea from a series on wartime perspective.

I enjoyed both series very much. I think the Pacific went a different way then BoB to try to show the differences in the two theaters.
