Nice try, but no, you don't. This question came up years ago in Magic The Gathering, when one card read "loses -1/-1". A lot of "savvy" players whipped out their high school math to trick this one.
The model loses 1 Attack...

The Monolith has a similar one when it gets a 'weapon destroyed' result and you subtract -1 shots.
By RAW, and the proper use of arithmetic rules, this is indeed what you should do.
By RAI, nope.
By now, we should all have realised that GW is as much fail as disappoint at both usage of English and arithmetic. This is despite their "order of operations" notes in the rules.

Heh.
They'll no doubt turn up to the WRONG address anyway - and end up nuking some poor schlobs house on the Gold Coast.
Even more fail and "son, I am disaappoint".

Dictionary
–noun
1.
a book containing a selection of the words of a language, usually arranged alphabetically, giving information about their meanings, pronunciations, etymologies, inflected forms, etc., expressed in either the same or another language; lexicon; glossary: a dictionary of English; a Japanese-English dictionary.
2.
a book giving information on particular subjects or on a particular class of words, names, or facts, usually arranged alphabetically: a biographical dictionary; a dictionary of mathematics.
3.
Computers .
a.
a list of codes, terms, keys, etc., and their meanings, used by a computer program or system.
b.
a list of words used by a word-processing program as the standard against which to check the spelling of text entered.
Couldn't resist.
But back away from the tangent. I think you'd have to be a serious to enforce the RAW here (yes we all know - -1 = +1 but this is from the guys who think raising prices makes profits go up )
Yet another example of GW's amazing proof reading skills...

I see all the math pedantry in this thread and raise a grammar pedantry.
Losing -1 Attack would require you to have a "-1 Attack" to lose. So RAW would be that it would remove a -1 Attack modifier.
Excuse me, I have to go organize my sock drawer by thread count.

Remember it is not a minus sign in front of the 1, it is a dash.
so the model loses (dash) 1 attack.
They did not need to put the dash in there, but they are wacky guys!

Up until Fourth Edition, Weakness read "target creature loses -1/-1."

That'd be wrong then, weakness reads "loses -2/-1"
