I have recently discovered Inquisitor but am not sure how to set about starting.

Do you have to have Inquisitor models or can you use 40K ones?
How many models should you use?
How big a playing area should you have?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

First you have to go on a quest to find the three other people scattered around the globe that still play the game.

You can scale it to use 40k minis.

  • You can use which ever scale you fancy. If you're going to play at 40k scale do it properly like Mol... http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/240062.page don't just use 40k models and avoid space marines. (some good battle reports in the thread too)

  • How many models should you use?
  • Two players and a GM. 2 to 4 miniatures per player should do.

  • How big a playing area should you have?
  • Depends entirely on what scale you are using because all the ranges in the book are in yards and what story the game is trying to tell. Eg 54mm scale normally uses 1yard=1inch. 28mm usually uses either 1cm=1yard or 1/2inch=1yard. The 54mm battle reports in white dwarf used a 4foot square table if I remember correctly.

  • Have a look at the Conclave http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/ and Warseer's Inquisitor section http://www.warseer.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=96 too. Most of all have a few practice games, come up with a story and then battle for the emperor's soul Take turns gming so everyone in gets to play as characters too.

    I wrote the following Inquisitor FAQs to help newcomers to the game;
    Inquisitor Overview
    Creating Characters
    Designing Scenarios and Campaigns

Have a read through and come back and ask any questions you might have and I'll do my best to answer them.

    But in short...
Do you have to have Inquisitor models or can you use 40K ones?
You can use whatever scale you want. The rules give distances in yards, and at 54mm we use 1"=1 yard, but for 28mm you can use 12=2 yards or 1cm=1 yard.

How many models should you use?
In my experience, the optimal size for a game is 3-4 characters per player and no more than ten characters on the table (including NPCs).

How big a playing area should you have?
At 54mm I'd suggest 4'x4', or maybe 6'x4' but if I have a table that big I generally use the sides as somewhere to put character sheets etc. For 28mm you could use just 2'x2' - so you could play on a coffee table.

Let's just say he has to make a Perils of The Warp test each time.

There's about 15 forums I've found where Inquisitor is discussed - the Conclave is the only one that has significant activity, but I try to check in on the others at least once a week.

There tends to be a lot of misconceptions out there about Inquisitor, but there's also a steady stream of interest in it so I like to try to encourage discussion when it starts.

    Either that, or I'm psychic.

Thanks for the advice, the linkes to The Conclave were really useful.

@Kaled, You said that 2x2 was suitable for 28mm Inquisitor games but how much scenery should you put in this area? Should it be quite open or packed with buildings and barricades?

    Thanks

I generally like a lot of terrain, but it all depends on the scenario. I particularly like terrain with multiple levels - Necromunda terrain is particularly good in this regard.
