When SoB are released, I'm going to be buying up a large force, and I was thinking about naming each and every model (ambitious but doable) and vaguely personalising them with different hair colours, skin colours, scars etc. When I mentioned this to a friend, he said that he thought that each Order had an official hair colour, which seems to be supported by the pictures in the Witchhunters codex. I was doubtful of this, because I didn't think that "Thou shalt dye thine hair white to be in the Order of Our Martyred Lady" would be a legitimate rule.

Opinions?

It's your army. Do whatever you want with them. You could dye their hair pink if you wanted to. No one would be able to say anything about it.

Painting models with the same hair color is more a matter of visual uniformity.

However, I guess the reason why some orders of battle only have one type of hair color is because this color has a religious meaning for the order, or something like that. It could be the hair color of a saint revered by the order.

"How many more worlds do we sacrifice? How many more millions or billions do we betray before we turn and fight?" - attributed to Captain Leoten Semper of Battlefleet Gothic - Gothic War, the evacuation of Belatis.

If commanding a Titan is a measure of true power, then commanding a warship is like having one foot on the Golden Throne - Navy saying.

I used hair color to tie each squad togeather.. all the gals in one squad shared the same color.

"hotter" shades went to the Fast Attack slot.. whereas more sober colors went to Elites..

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

There's no real piece of canon that dictates what hair colour orders ussually accept. If you're going with a natural difference then there will be a wide spread.

The white hair for the Order of Our Martyred Lady is symbolic over the grief their order has felt. That's just about the only explanation I can see for it.

Keep in mind, pretty much every single goddamned depiction of Sisters in art use that particular order. It's really annoying, because frankly they have a really boring color scheme.

My order is given brown hair instead.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

We've always seen black and white. They have stated that the "official" (for lack of a better term) colours of the sisters is Black, Red and White. They are always depicted in those colours in various schemes. I actually think the hair colour is part of the uniform.

Yes, which is boring.

GW's stupidity is no reason to limit your own creativity.

It doesn't limit your creativity and its not stupid. I like their colour scheme.
They always put in more avenues for more customization like lesser known Orders/Chapters/Regiments/Clans/Hivefleets etc.

I use Order of the Bloody Rose colors for my units with hair color denoting squads. I think I have Blue and Purple (Celestians), Light and Dark Brunette, Blonde and Leelu Dallas for Troops, Blue and Red with highlights for Seraphim, etc.

Only my Can has white hair.

Sure it does. They pretty much never show Sisters to begin with, but when they doit's always the same color schemes. It doesn't encourage creativity very well like that, to be sure.

Frankly it's probably also always the same models and paintjobs as were done back in second edition, but I digress.

My assumption has always been that the hair style and color is part of the uniform. If you want 10,000 women (or men) to all look the same from 30 feet away there's nothing that helps more that giving them all the same haircut. I imagine quite a few of the Sisters wear wigs, especially those that extensive scaring that would otherwise leave them bald.
