Subject: where to buy wheels?

So, I'm floating around a few ideas for some terrain, and one of the ones I want to do includes wheels. I'm talking like car wheels or motorcycle wheels with rubber tires. Ideally, they'd be like half an inch or so (I don't have a ruler on me at the moment, so something roughly that size). It doesn't actually have to look like a real tire per-se (I mean, I did "wheels" for my gun chassis out of shower door rollers), but having something tire-like would be ideal.
And before someone mentions it, I can't use the shower door rollers for this project (at least, not the type I'm using), because they need to be symmetrical.
I'm going to go to my local hardware store soon, and rummage around, but I was just curious if anybody else had done modeling of wheels with something cheap.

Your hardware store _may_ have rubber 'wheels' that small (although they may actually be washers or rollers as opposed to true wheels), but I suspect they'll be completely smooth. If you want the tyres to have treads, you'll probably have to try cars/trucks from a cheap toy shop.

Ya it's the treads that seem to be the real problem for me. I can find round things - but what to use for treads?

i think when you buy sort of rubber rings from the hardware store you can use them to look like weels.
using a sharp knife you can maybe make some relief into the rings and after painting and drybrushing i think they should look allright...
just from my imaginnation so not sure if it will work.

i´d go for lego wheels...there are so many sellers on ebay where you can order all specific bits you like...and the wheels should be quite good in scale...for reference i mean these here: the smallest ones should be very good as i intendedto use them for scratch building some bikes for my SM chapter...

ooooh... lego wheels.
As other people have noted, it's the treads that would be the problem. I'm prepared to spend time adding them on with GS, but it would be nice if I could avoid that.
The problem with non-lego cheap toys is that I can't find wheels small enough.

Lego has to be your best bet, certainly in terms of volume and cost effectiveness. It would also be very easy to trim the edges of thee tyres to give them a more rounded look.

If you can find some old truck toy cars, designated for ages between 4 and 6 the tires on them should be big enough, as well as toy monster trucks. they have some impressive tires. I keep coming across them everywhere, mostly when I rumage through my old toys in my parents attick.

It has been varified by John Hurt that the Ultramarines are indeed the greatest space marine chapter. |

Not sure if you have these in the states, but Hot Wheels and Scaletrix race car kits usually have tire replacement sets you can buy which are a good scale to 40k (although they may be a little small if you plan on mounting them on a chimera). They also come with axels etc.
Another alternative is Tamiya make working race car kits ( RC) and they sell rubber tyres at 1/35 and 1/40 scale IIRC which fit 40k scale quite well if it's anything like their 1/35 scale tanks.
The last most expensive option is just to get the Tauros Venator kit from FW and steal the tyres... You could probably break even by selling the rest of the kit on eBay as bits slowly.
EDIT://
Here's some examples.

http://www.wonderlandmodels.com/products/tamiya-celica-racing-radial-tire/
http://www.wonderlandmodels.com/products/tamiya-rally-block-tyres/
These may be a bit big for a chimera though, since they are 1/10 but I'm certain i've seen some 1/35 last time I was in a store that stocked Tamiya goods (although that was in Japan.....)
