Say what you will about the Warmaster of Chaos, that strange walking lawnmower leading the forces of Chaos directly and unswervingly towards complete and final victory, but you know what?

Between Alpha and Omega, and a little to the left

Actually, the first one was successful, but only because Cadia hadn't become the fortress world that it is now.

Still a horrid track record.

You forget, for a black crusade to suceed it'd detract from the spot light of the loyalist marines.

And force GW to advance the plot which we all know is considered Heresy to them.

Yes, Abaddon suffers from Darkseid/Lex Luthor syndrome. He's meant to always be uber-dangerous and powerful, but never, -ever-, actually win.

Because then it'd be another game/story.

Ghagzkull suffers from the same issue, but not so overtly. Dropping into an important system/sector, get to the brink of total victory, than being beaten back by the tens of SM chapters that drop in to save the day. He'll then get to kill the chapter master of some obscure chapter (Emperor's Random Mooks) and flee to lose again some other day.

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.

In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos.

Horus conquered the galaxy in a couple hundred years. Abaddon is still in his own prison after ten thousand years. Worthy successor?

Also, Ghazghkull won his second bout against Armageddon (at least in his eyes, which has to count for something).

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.

+1 to this

It’s silly to think GW would actually write the storyline to let Chaos destroy the imperium ergo GW will never let Abaddon win a Black Crusade. It’s also one of the reasons why the GK were able to banish Angron and Lord Draigo was able to roundhouse kick Mortarion.

Personally I’d like to see the balance within 40k fluff restored and have GW release a story where Chaos actually wins for once. A man can dread though, a man can dream….

In all honesty i think Abbaddon is doing better than, he is making the chaos powers even more powerful.

(as far as i know) The chaos powers feed off of emotion. Namely death and regrowth (nurgle), Fighting type things like pride (khorne) hope and despair (tzeench) and overindulgence (Slaanesh). When i think about it, what is Abbadon really doing? Definitely causing bloodshed, and death, from which springs new life after he is gone, causing despair during the crusades and hope that he can be defeated. And after he is "defeated" im sure that many citizens over indulge in many celebratory activities.

If he was to actually win Im not sure the gods would benefit as much.

Abbadon just can't concentrate on his work, he lost a friend some time ago and he hasn't got over it quite yet.

All is forgiven if repaid in Traitor's blood.

Well, if you can define victory -that- low, I guess even Huron is a winner. See, he almost won this war once before fleeing!

Which is not to say Ghaz doesn't rock. He does, but for fluff reasons, he'll always be the "major threat who sets a sector on fire every 50 years, and then is denied triumph at the last moment through the monumental sacrifice of the Empire's defenders".

The goal of a black crusade in not necessarily 'destroy everything'. iirc the 12th or so (the one in the gothic sector) he just wanted to get his hands on the blackstone fortress, which he did.. I think.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.
