Hey there, guys. First time posting here so please be nice!
I recently started my first Warhammer Fantasy army - Orcs! Savage Orc-themed Orcs and Goblins to be exact. And as you probably already know.. putting ~25 models on a movement tray is annoying as all hell. Especially when their arms are all over the place (not my fault here!).

Just read a very nice guide on regimental bases on this website
I guess my question here is.. how best to field my army using regimental bases? I need a place to start from.. and I've been hearing about people using tiny pieces of sheet metal on which they glue models - 2, 3, 4, even 5 at a time, creating a "regimental base", which is then used for a much faster fielding of an army. The problem lies when taking casualties. I just am not sure how many of each number of regimental bases to use for my squad. :( I don't want to mess up.

So for example.. I've got a squad of 25 Savage Orc Boyz. 23 of them are on individual single bases and two of them (the Big Stabba) is on a cavalry base. I eventually want to add a Shaman to the unit. I know I pretty much need to keep my command - musician, banner bearer and boss on their own bases. Oh, and I field them 5x5.

So first I need your help with coming up with a way to distribute my orcs on various regimental bases. I'm not sure how many single models I should keep and how many 2, 3, 4, or even 5-man bases I should have. Hopefully my question is easy to comprehend..

Build the front and rear ranks on single bases. Build all the ranks in-between on regimental bases. This will give you enough single bases to remove casualties and provide flexibility if you want to field something other than a 5x5 unit.

I would have the first 2 or 3 ranks be all individual bases (for characters and the Big Stabba). The rest I would go with bases for 2 or 3 orks. That way you can remove part of a rank. If you have to remove 4 you can either place a marker there to indicate how many in that base are dead. You really don't need sheet metal either (unless your going for the storage option as well) Just have the tray built out of another magnet.

So do I build them 2-man, 3-man? I probably want a good mix of that, right?
I was also confused on the way it works. So basically if 2 guys die, I remove a 2-man base and move single guys to fill in the gap, correct? And then just return removed guys if needed to switch with dead regimental bases..

I am just very insecure and don't want to mess up, lol.

If your that worried about the basing - use single basing and magnetize the whole unit. Store the unit on the movement tray - when its time to play, just pull out the whole tray. If you need to transport the units, buy a metal tool box & magnetize the movement tray.
