So just wanted to query if anyone out here had some reviews/experience with some good, moderately priced magnifying lamps. Probably looking to upgrade this one I've got that's just a bit too hot and a bit too yellow.
Any advice is appreciated, and if you can, provide weblinks to some places that you've had good experiences!
Thanks!

Does it have to do both? If the lens still works, you'd likely have an easier (and cheaper) time if you just got a cheapo clamshell (I love goosenecks, whether the lamp in table-standing or clip-on) and a full-spectrum bulb. When it comes to lighting, the bulb is way more important than the holder. Both of my painting lamps were rescued from the trash pile and, after a $6-ish bulb upgrade, work a treat.

Duly noted on the title change there, thanks!
@ Oadie, what kind of bulbs would recommend?

I use a flourecent in a mag-lamp and a day-glo (Or real-light or whatever the heck the proprietary name is) incandescent gooseneck both.
Find the different angles and the mix of light tends to work really well.

I just use a set of 3 power reading glasses from WalMart (5$).
A desk lamp is sufficient (I use 2 to eliminate shadowing) for lighting.
The glasses also let me maintain stereoscopic vision (depth perception) so the brush goes where I want it to.
Just be careful when looking up at a more distant object. The whole room goes vertigo. I've since learned to rest the glasses low on the nose so I can look up and over the glasses to get a normal perspective.

You can get some pretty good magnifying lamp reviews << here.
My trouble is picking just one!
Not sure why, but I have always love magnifying lenses. And I also love LEDs, so I am like a kind in a candy shop trying to decide which one to get.

While it's not a magnifying lamp, my wife got me an Ott Lite for christmas last year, and I kept saying "I love lamp" all day.

I have a older lamp with a magnifier attached. I just changed the bulb, with technology now, you can get a florescent bulb in any size for normal light fixtures, they are all low watt, so they don't get hot, like the incandescent bulbs. That's what I did, and works great, I can work for hours and have no worries about heat burning my hands or drying out paint to soon.

honestly i think good lighting is more important then the magnification that such an accessory would give. and if you feel you do need some just get some cheap reading glasses from the dollar store or something.... but as i said i feel like lighting is way more important then magnification

I finally went for a ProMagnify 90 LED model. Not the cheapest model out there, but I absolutely love it!
Well worth the time spent researching.
