Subject: Trygon to Trygon prime - shooting attacks question

So about a week ago I was playing at my local gaming store and I had my Trygon prime fielded, and one of the on-lookers was asking why I was only shooting the Containment spines (the assualt 12 shot) and not the Bio-electric pulse as well (the assault 6 shot). I told him I thought once you upgraded the Trygon to a Trygon prime you lost the assault 6 shot as it got upgraded to the assault 12 shot. He tried to correct me, but I said in spirit of keeping the game moving quicker, I am only going to shoot the assault 12 shot since that is my interpretation of the rules, and I knew my opponent wouldn't disagree with that
Anyway, what are your guys thoughts? When I was using army builder just now I notice it says "Bio-electric Pulse" as a regular Trygon, however when I click Trygon Prime it says "Bio-Electric Pulse w/ Containment spines" ... was that kid right that I get both shots?
Thanks in advance guys

I actually played someone today who used both. It never says in the entry that it replaces it, and as a monstrous creature it can fire two weapons.

No, the profile of the weapon is upgraded. You only get 12 shots. Automatically Appended Next Post: mossplant wrote:I actually played someone today who used both. It never says in the entry that it replaces it, and as a monstrous creature it can fire two weapons.
Please check the codex entry. It does in fact state that you upgrade the profile of the weapon. 1 gun, 2 profiles...You get to use one or the other, not both.

Codex entry says that the trygon has bio-electric pulse and containment spines (trygon prime only). Why wouldn't you get both?

Yes a trygon has both the pulse and the spines, BUT, let me quote one thing from the spine's rules. "A trygon prime uses the following profile when firing it's bio-electric pulse:" [Goes on showing the improved profile.] DON'T see the spines as a weapon in itself, see it as an upgrade to the pulse.

One weapon with 2 different firing profiles. You only have permission to fire the 12 shot version.

The Bio-Electric pulse comes in only two flavors - 6 shot and 12 shot. The trygon/Trygon Prime only gets one or the other. Any other interpretation that involves getting 18 s5 shots is a person really scrabbling for an advantage where there isn't one.
