Does any one have any decent tips on painting eldar? I am by no means an expert painter but i like to think im pretty good but eldar just totally and completly phase me. I have recently aquired a few and using a tut on here for stripping them down with detol i have got them plain again but the few that were unpainted and i did just looked terrible. I normally use washes of colours and build up from light to dark with a lighter wash over the top but with eldar it doesnt look right, specially on gaurdians. I really wanted to do craftworld iyanden but yellow is such an unforgiving colour. Any tip-s would be welcome and any other colour scheme aswell, as i my sway from yellow lol. thanks.

Paint slightly watery, perhaps starting with a lighter color and then adding the shadows.

Easiest way is to just basecoat, wash, then highlight and detail. The yellow is very unforgiving as you have said though.

I doubt you want to paint up the colors of my craftword, but I did a step by step with my colors a while back should give you an example of one option. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/60/264823.page

Guardians and washes tend not to go together. Little tiny raised panels vs the undersuit means washes can pool no matter how much care you give them, especially if applied as an all over coat. If you do was on the guardians, be careful just to apply where you need it.

If you want iyanden, Make your life easier. There are two ways.

1 - white basecoat. Over this, apply a preshade of golden yellow - but quite well diluted, almost like a wash. It will glaze, providing you with a deep yellow shade. Layers graduating from 50/50 golden yellow and sunburst yellow up to plain sunburst are next. Highlight with white and yellow mixed 1:4 respectively. For the blue helmet, try regal blue preshade, again like a wash. and work up.

2 - Iyanden darksun over primer. Wash with gryphonne sepia. It may pool, but you'll be painting a finish over it. 50/50 darksun to golden yellow over that, leaving the recesses shaded. Highlight with the 50/50 mix plus a spot of white. Blue can be achieved with enchanted blue washed with asurmen, and then clean enchanted back over the top.

Quick, easy and tabletop in no time.

Bluedagger this is actually weird as hell. I was looking at your pics yesterday of yesterday when i was galery brwsing for insparation and i was completly jaw dropped by your wraithhawk. Also the soul stones on the farseer (i think) red ones on its helmet are fantastic how did you get them to look so real? (if i may ask)

The colour scheeme you have chosen is what i based my swooping hawks on, but i replaced yellow with gold. Ha ha busted me dude.

Blackram i use washes on almost everything i paint, but the effect on the gaurdians just looks bad. no other owrd for it but bad lol.
