I have things flying left and right for conversions, but I always like to bounce ideas. Looking at my friend's plastic Cadians I noticed they came with rebreather masks like the ones on the Kasrkins. Would they be passable IST for the new GK codex if I modified their lasguns with guitar wire and gave them backpacks? If not then I'll just use them as normal Vets in an IG army. All of the Cadian to Kasrkin conversions I see have sculpted leg armor, which I'm not keen on doing so many times over in GS (nor cutting that many small plates). My conversion-challeneged friend is also looking for cheap Stormtroopers for his Guard army (he just loves them, both the model and the rules. He just doesnt have the money to buy them, being a visa student with no job).

Yes.
I did this with my old cadians for the previous codex.
I got 20 cadian vox sets (helmets & packs) as part of a bits bag. Some guitar string (actually, Bass guitar string) and it was all good.

Honestly, normal cadians could pass for IST if you just put extra armor on them and mod their gun out a little bit. Besides gun and armor, the only difference between a guardsmen and stormy is experience.
Edit - Guess I read your post too fast to catch the last part. Haven't even read the GK codex yet so whatever i say is based on the guard codex, ergo invalid, my bad.

Well the new IST is basically a guardsman with Carapace Armro and a Hot-Shot lasgun. WYSIWYG purposes all I need to do is to give them wires on their guns. But i want to get as close as I can to the Kasrkins, without having to sculpt on those damn shin plates.

Well, you could give them some form of camo then. Idk, it seems to be that if you want to do a proper stormie, you really need to sculpt that armor. You could always give them riot shields maybe?

I think I have enough bits to make one Cadian in my bitzbox. I'll use that as a test model and post some pics later this week. EDIT: Nvm. The Guard bitz I have lack armor, of any sort. Gonna have to wait till I can get a Cadian BF before i can attempt anything.

Scouts are expensive though, I would just get the actual kasrkins box if I have to resort to that (30 bucks for 5 scouts, so it's roughly 60 for 10 of them. A box of 10 Kasrkins is 50 bucks).

I meant buy the leg from a bitz site, but as you say thaat can a little pricey, they do make good bases though, but you will still need to cadian arms, modify the gun and get a decent looking head.

Thanks for the input. However even if I get them from a bitz site, they still lack any leg armor. I think I'll stick with Cadians for now. I also just realised the rebreather masks came only on the Command squad, so I would need to resort to bitz site one way or another. I might just get straight up Kasrkins at this rate, since it's getting rather costly even for cheap alternatives. I feel much better about paying 4 bucks per metal model than plastics.
