It is difficult for someone like me, who prefers infantry rather than vehicles, not to want to take a 4 x incinerator purgation squad (free incinerators, 100 points, too good to pass up!) . The ability to put them in a chimera (on turn 1) and drive them up at a horde is rather enticing to me. If the chimera is not sufficiently dealt with, you can lose up to 30 models to the well placed templates of a 4 x heavy flamer squad.
But enough of the reason why I am asking, and more to the rules question:
Astral Aim states you may shoot through cover (as shown below) after passing a psychic test, with an unmodifiable 4+ cover save to any enemy models being fired on. This is all fine and dandy, but what happens when firing with template weapons? Multiple problems arise:
- templates cannot psychically be placed because of intervening terrain. Do you remove the terrain? Put the template over the top and try to judge?
- Incinerators pass cover save. Just because a cover save is unmodifiable, doesnt mean it cannot be passed, does it?
How do you play it, Dakka?

the Incenerator would ignore the cover save.
the "unmodifiable" part is so models with stealth won't benifit.
of course, i can't think of many situations where this would come up. you would have to have alot of vertical walls taller then 2"

Ruins, buildings, bastions. It doesnt matter how often it comes up, it matters how you would play it when it does. Automatically Appended Next Post: Hell what about shooting through wrecked vehicles? Enemy vehicles even!

On moving terrain it's a call that will need to be made on a case-by-case basis.
Unmodified means no modification to the save, not 'unpassable'

Place the template as normal. Why is placing a template an issue?
Just hold it higher in the air so you can see who it covers.

The template rules only contemplate placing from a top view anyway. When firing into a multi level building, you select a level.
