Subject: Tomb Spiders and Victory points?

Tonight I had an annihilation spearhead game against my Necron playing friend.
Among other things he fielded one unit of two Tomb Spiders, during the game I killed both Tomb Spiders.
When it came time to tally up kill points at the end of the game, he argued that the Tomb Spiders counted as a single unit
(For matters concerning scoring kill points) However I argued that the codex stated that the Tomb spiders are;
"deployed as a single unit, but do not have to be placed together, and operate as independent units during the game"
I took this to mean that for matters of scoring kill points that each tomb spider counted for one kill point due to the bolded statement above.
Another friend was judging the game and called my interpretation as correct, ending the game in a tie.
I'm still not sure who was right. I'd like to award him the win if he was right.
Could someone clarify this?
Thanks!

He was right. You buy them as one unit but they don't need to maintain coherency, that's all that rule is meant to do. If you think about their function, it wouldn't make sense for them to work close together.

You were correct.
Each independant unit is worth 1 KP.
For instance...
Unit with a dedicated transport = 2 units = 2 KP
Marine unit combat squads into 2 units = 2 units = 2 KP
3 sanguinary priests purchased as one elite choice = 3 units = 3 KP
IG platoon (taken as one trooops choice) consisting on one PCS, 2 HWS, 3 IG units, 4 DT = 10 units = 10 KP
Tau Priahna that gets wrecked and deploys 2 gun drops = 2 units = 2 KP
2 tomb spiders (purchased as one choice) = 2 units = 2 KP

But they aren't independent units, each simply operate as one.

Sharing a force org slot does not make them a single unit. They are separate units and each is worth a kill point, just like a squad and it's dedicated transport.

Yeah for scoring in KP missions the easiest way to define if something is a KP in instances like this is whether they need to maintain unit coherency or not. If they have to stay together they're 1 KP, if they can split up during the game for any reason, multiple KP's.

This is just like DE Hameonculus. You can take 3 per slot, but they are all separate units. So yeah, they each are their own KP.

Part of 'operating' as a single unit is counting for KPs at the end of the game.
Like Wings make one count as jump 'countign as' means one can deep strike, one can not operate as single unit without following the rules for that.
