Hollerin' Herda with Squighound Pack

I bought a box of the new whfb savage orcs, mostly because I like painting orks but I hate painting cloth. I'm happy just to paint them for fun, but I'm also building a 40k ork army and thought I might be able to convert them by substituting sluggas for whatever they would otherwise be holding in their non-choppa hands.
Because of the way they're put together, swapping whole arms isn't really workable, but I figure I can cut off the hand and substitute slugga-holding ork hands. So what I need is about 7 left arms (ork's left, not your left) holding sluggas. Questions are:
1. Is there anyplace you can get something as specific as "7 left ork arms holding sluggas"? Closest I've found is warstore, which sells sets of slugga/choppa arms, but there's only three left arms to a pack, and I don't really want to shell out for three packs when most of the bits are nothing I'm likely to use.
2. I'm no artist, but I don't mind slaving over the greenstuff and I'm diligent. How stupid an idea would it be to cut/file the fingers off some right-arm sluggas and try to make my own hands?
3. The set does come with bows. (It's a pretty nice little set, by the way.) If I were playing against you and I said "um, so these bows and arrows count as sluggas, they're like space arrows or something," how irritated would you be?

As for looking for the bits..
the ork Boyz box set has sluggas in both left and right arms.. so there should be some available out there...
Try a post here on dakka in the Swap Shop.. or, for a more dedicated trading community, Bartertown also has a bits swapping area..

I'm actually doing this myself, but I bought a box of boyz when I bought the Savage Orcs so I find it very easy just to put sluggas on. I decided that if I do use the bows I'll use them as shootas instead of sluggas because it makes more sense in my head, but if you mix them in with other units it doesn't really matter as long as over 50% of the unit is armed with the correct gear (or so I'm told.)
I've found that e-bay is a pretty good place to find random bits, but honestly at that point I find it easier just to buy a full kit of orks since I'm going to end up needing more boyz anyway.

You could just cut off a hand weapon and stuck on a slugga in their now-free hand. Hand swaps will look better generally, but this is easily done. Would look better with the 40k aesthetic than them using bows anway.

I'd have no problem with bows counting as sluggas, especially for a Snake Bites klan unit, seems pretty fluffy. A bow does use up both hands (well, it can look a bit odd if the other hand doesn't hold an arrow), but you can make the bow also a counts-as choppa by adding some nasty spikes/blades on the ends to show its use in hand-to-hand.

I'd definitely let bows count as sluggas. For choppas, you could either add spikes, as Clang suggested, or add choppas hanging off of belts/slung across backs, etc. While there aren't currently any "feral ork" unit entries in the codex, possibilities have been mentioned in the fluff. Squig catapults, for example, can replace lobbas from the current Big Gunz entry. Not that you're looking to run them, of course, but this vein of conversion has already been "sanctioned," if that's how you want to look at it.

yeah, don't necessarily need to swap them all out, if you're going for Snakebites. You could use spears as counts-as sluggas, too. It's not like sluggas got very good range, and a thrown spear in one hand with a choppa in the other would be fine.
Honestly don't see many Skakebitez clanz around.
