NO, not true. It's just easy to knock the USA.

The US does fund much of the UN, but I guess I just have more faith in people/humanity then for a stunt like that to exist.

There is a history of disagreement between the USA and UN.

As long as the Security Council members have a veto, it is impossible for the USA to simply control UN resolutions.

The US is a member of the security council along with France, England, Russia, and China. We're part of the top tier of the U.N, but there are other nations.

Besides the Security Council which gets to the the sexy sanctions and use of force stuff, there's also the General Assembly who do the rest of the work.

There a lot countries vote as blocks and have unwritten agreements about who will get what jobs etc.

This is how folks like China, Saudi and Libya get on the UN Human Rights Council. Although they acutally did suspend Libya which is nice to hear because a month or two ago they were planning to give Libya a human rights award.

Makes you want to scream!

But then I remind myself that jaw-jaw is better than war-war and feel better.

The USA has considerable influence over the UN, based in part on it's formal powers (where it's permanent security status grants it powers equal with only four other countries in the world) but it also has considerable indirect influence based on the immense economic and military sway it has over the world.

It is this indirect influence that grants it far greater power than the other permanent security members. China has been attempting in the last decade or so to grow it's own indirect influence in the same manner, and achieved impressive results.

Note, however, that this is influence, not control. It can bring votes towards the US POV, but it cannot dictate votes.
