If an IC with a grenade joins a unit and assaults with that unit that does not have the grenade type does the IC and the unit benefit from the grenade or does just the model equipped with the grenade benefit from the effects of it. IC is considered a separate unit for purposes of close combat so I would say the unit does not get the effect of the grenade. If the unit benefits from it as well does it affect multiple units in a multi assault even if the only models in base contact with the additional unit being assaulted don't have the grenade?

Models take advantage of the grenades they're equipped with.

"Models equipped with assault grenades don't suffer the penalty to thier initiative for assaulting enemies through cover, but fight as normal."

So any models with assault grenades will benefit, any models without assault grenades will not.

What about the new grenade types for the Grey Knights, IE Psychotrope grenades and Rad grenades. If the IC has those does the unit gain the benefit from them or just the IC?

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

since those grenades effect the whole enemy unit the whole assaulting squad will get the benifit without actually carrying the grenades themselves.

Assault Grenades would do the same if they effected the models being assaulted, but they effect the models doing the assaulting so it doesn't work.

Nottingham (yay!)

I love how 'this unit has it but not that unit' can make for weird action sequences.

Carnifex unit with Frag Spines is joined by a Tyranid Prime with Lash Whip.

A Guard blob is charged, and are unable to effectively defend the wall they're holding as a barrage of spikes and tentacles forces them to keep their heads down until the last minute.

The Carnifexes trample away, however the Prime at the epicentre of the writhing tentacles (which made contact with the Guards before the Carnifexes got there) has to fight his way through a barrage of laspistol rounds, eventually managing to trade blows with a Power Fist-wielding Commissar Lord.

I really think that so many of these new codexes are just thrown together with little to no concept of how it affects the game we play. I understand they want to make it interesting and its future based, but lets put some logic into it to some manner please. One dude with a single grenade chucks it into a 30 man squad and suddenly every single person is affected, miraculously the one grenade somehow covered an entire platoon in the middle of a dense jungle, but a laser that has the capacity to melt through ceramite plated armor was deflected by razor wire, or better yet. Tall blades of grass. I have been playing the game for over 10 years and it just seems like in their attempt to simplify the game system they have instead made the rules so ambiguous that so many of us have had to become "rules lawyers" to decipher a poorly written 5th ED core system. I am not saying everything is bad, just that I think that they should take more time to make a balanced game then a template for experimental concepts from codex to codex.
