These came up in a game I played yesterday, not game changing at the time but could make the difference in the future.

1. If the left hand side of a tank has a few infantry in b2b (the rear 50%), if I want to rotate the tank and move towards the left, do the infantry just get moved aside and allow the tank to move as normal?
2. Can tanks move sideways their full movement? If I have 2 tanks next to each other almost touching, can they just move sideways 6" without having to shunt back and forth multiple times by only going forwards and backwars?

I'm sure for #1 I've read a passage saying the models get pushed aside but can't find where. For #2 I can't find anywhere that says vehicles can only move forwards and backwards so I assume they can move sideways.

Thanks

Tanks can move models out of the way using a Tank Shock! move, but they can't pivot and move models (even when using Tank Shock!).

Vehicles move forward and backward, pivoting around their center- they can get the effect of moving sideways, but don't actually do so.

If you arranged a parrallel, touching tank park like ll, you couldn't just move one of the vehicles directly sideways to achieve l l. You'd need to pivot (if there was room) to -l, then move (- l) and pivot again (l l). If the vehicles were too close, you wouldn't be able to pivot and would have to move forwards, then pivot, then move back, and then pivot once more.

This would be easier with a picture, but you're getting lines instead.

Thanks for the quick reply, another question about Tank Shock in this case... Say I want to Tank shock the models in b2b with the tank, am I allowed to pivot first and then tank shock? I assume the answer is a no.

Tanks can pivot while models are in b2b with them, you remove them and place them back into base contact (pg. 63).

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Great, thanks. I knew I read it somewhere. So the point is models that are not in b2b have to be tank shocked to allow me to move through them, but models in b2b due to assault can be pushed aside and let me move away.

Forkbanger, I disagree. There's nothing in the rulebook saying Vehicles can only move in straight lines and pivot. It says they move as other units do, and pivot around their centre point.

However, the facing of a vehicle is only used for determining armour facings and it's guns LoS, not it's movement. Therefore, I draw the conclusion that, like any other model, a vehicle can move in any direction without pivoting. So, moving two vehicles:
|| to | | is perfectly fine.

The rules for vehicle movement do not, in any way, overrides the default movement rules for Infantry.

You can suppose they do, but nothing in the rules states this

You can move sideways all you like.

Gone-to-ground in the craters of Coventry

For tanks with tracks and wheels, it's odd that they can move sideways.
But, for skimmers and walkers, this seems normal.

To prevent everyone wanting their tanks to hover, everyone gets to shift sideways.

Or something along those lines.

Twenty orks running into one wall of their battleweagon to make it roll over seems perfectly fine thing to do for orks.

The rules imply that all movement(with all models) should be straight forward.

But they never actually say this.

Instead they state that you may move your models x" and turn any number of times while doing so.

Only Tank-shock/Ramming(Both, individually), and "don't Press dat" specifically state that straight forward movement is required.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.
