Ok, so, I'm in the hobby for the converting and creative pursuits.

I been looking at the new GK models, and i really want to do something with them, they are awesome. My first thought was turning them into things for my chaos army.

Now, im thinking, starting a whole new army, as an adeptus Custodes army. So, Ill use GKs kits as a base, throw in some sanguinary guard bits, and high elf helmets.

Im not looking for ultra ornate armour, or anything like that, im going to make it basic. i know the custodes have very ornate armour, but i cant really make very ornate armour (im open to suggestions.)

my questions are these :

Where else should i look for bits for the project? and What codex should i use for when i want to play them? GKs seems like the obvious choice.

Sang Guard will probably be a good alternative to normal GKs. They cost roughly the same and come with very ornate armor, which would be good for Custodes conversions. You just need some backpacks for them and you can use the wings for other Custodes conversions.

Alternatively, if you want to be mroe faithful to the Custodes Armor, try using Chaos Warriors with SM backpacks and high elf helmets. These are about as close to the Custodes armor as you can get without massive conversions. The downside of this is, of course, you need a massive amount of storm bolters (halberds not so much, as the High Elf sets should come with enough halberts to equip the entire custodes unit) as you'll have to look to online bitz stores for individual Stormbolters.

For Terminators, straight up GKs with pre heresy shoulderpads should be sufficient, as they do not possess the pointed helms of normal custodes.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

actually, Scribor do some nice not-custodes heads, along with a very nice looking not-Emporer. I am planning the same thing, I am using the GK halberds, taking a bolter, filing it down and filling in the grip with GS, then taking a SB mag and sticking that to the side so it doesnt look too goofy. Remember the symbol of the Emporer was a lightning bolt, not an Aquilla, so use that more than you do the double headed bird.

Interesting... GKs with Scibor Not-Custodes Heads could work very convincingly.
