Hi guys, this post is for any tips and advice you have to do with hirst art moulds, heres my situation:

I don't have too much money, so I'd prefer to only buy 1 or 2 molds.
I wan't to build (modular)dungeons for use with D&D 4e, and am not too bothered about what style they are. EG: Fieldstone, Gothic, etc.
I will porbably use plaster to cast in, and was wondering if there is any cheap dental stone suppliers in the UK, as I would much prefer them to be durable.

So, whats your experience with hirst arts? Have you had any problems with specific moulds? What advice can you give to a fellow avid builder? Thanks for your time.

Hirst moulds are great value, you have to have the patience and time. Be warned though your first couple of times you are not going to get it right, but after a while ....I strongly suggest watching their excellent tutorials.

As for dental plaster search the web for the best price. However also check out more specialist plasters such as Herculite (my favourite) as these produce more durable, better results which in the long run will last longer.

Also search for decent silicone suppliers to make your own moulds for completed corridors etc, its saves a lot of time casting wise.

I had forgotten about these guys. I think I may need to pick up one of their scifi molds come payday. I wonder if they can be cast using resin as well as plaster.

Thanks guys, will research Herculite. I do however have a tonne of time on my hands, I'm in school atm so most of the time I just lay around doing nothing and I could be casting. I'm going to order 2 moulds on monday night though, either gothic builder + floors, or fieldstone + flagstone. I'm consulting my group on what they think would be better though first, hence why I'm waiting till monday. Keep em coming guys!

If you go to Hirsts blog you will find a few stores that are licensed to sell castings of his blocks. If you have a specific mold in mind you would be able to pick up more than enough casts to put it together. Naloomi is the name of the user I have in mind. He sells casts of each of the molds ranging from 1-2 dollars per cast. With a mold running 35, you could get 16 castings for the same price. More than enough for anything but the largest projects. If you are on the fence about a mold to get give it a try. You can also get full kits for 2-20 bucks. He sends you all the blocks needed for a specific project from Hirsts site.
