What is the most attacks a single unit can put out in a single turn? This can be shooting or assault, or a mix of the two (i.e. assume you shoot then assault).

My gut feeling is an Ork squad will be the winner here, but I wanted to see if there were any other contenders and what the actual numbers were.

So, impress dakka with as an offensive number of dice as possible!!

Orks would probably win but there are a few honourable mentions...
Genestealers and Hormagaunts.
Bloodclaws... 60 attacks on charge which is pretty good for an MEQ unit but their WS lets them down.
Death Company might actually beat the Ork Boyz but ii don't have the BA codex on me right now.

Something I have been thinking about

10x Purifiers with Pair of Falchions - 50 attacks on the charge (assuming +2 attacks on the charge, currently unknown if 100% valid); 20 shots pre charge from Storm Bolters. Cleansing flame pre-combat...

That's a lot of attacks.

I think the Ork finish to that is "If you can't beat 'em bash 'em"

30 hormagaunts with toxin sacs & adrenal glands, getting the assault off, with preferred enemy (from the hive tyrant)

2 base attacks (60)
1 more attack for the assault (30)

All wounding on 4+, if those fail, than anything with toughness 4 the Hormagaunts get to reroll their attacks since their str is 4 for having furious charge. Also preferred enemy will let them re-roll their misses , so its a pretty tough combo.

If you allow mixes, 30 termagants with deathspitters (3 shots for each, so 90 shots, then base attacks is another +30, then assaulting another +30). can give them toxin sacs and adrenal glands w/ preferred enemy as well...

1 IG platoon in a combined unit.
- Platoon Command Squadw/Commissar
        - 2 Laspistols
        - 2 Lasguns
        - Heavy Bolter

- 5 Infantry Squads w/Commissars
        - 2 Laspistols
        - 7 Lasguns
        - Heavy Bolter

- 5 Heavy Weapon Teams
        - 3 Heavy Bolters

- 2 Special Weapon Teams
        - 6 Lasguns
        - 3 Demo Charges

- Conscript squad of 50

This has 99 lasguns, 12 Laspistols and 21 Heavy Bolters. If the lasguns are in long range this unit shoots 162 shots. In short range you pump out 273 shots... and with First rank/second rank fire you get a whopping 261 shots (long) and 372 shots (short). I don't think anything can beat that.

This of course is 1315 points for this unit but that is not what you were going for . I just realized that if I take demo charges for the special weapon squads

Edit: I found out that if you give the special weapons team 3 demo charges they keep their lasguns which give more shots.

Unfortunately, despite that taking up only 1 spot in the force organization, that is like a dozen units.

I remember a Kroot Mercenary squad from the Kroot Mercenary army being able to shell out something like 120+ attacks, and that is something I have seen done... Against me.

No one has said anything about a 20 man Berzerker squad? That's like... 81 attacks (with a champ)on the charge at str, ws, and initiative 5.

But yea. Nothing next to a big blob of Ork Boyz.

If you take a 50 man combined squad of Renegade IG, half with shotguns, half with laspistol and CCW, you're putting out 75 ranged shots, and 125 CC attacks on the charge for a total of 200 attacks in one round. That's only 250 points worth of models, even.

It's still 5 squads, but it's only 1 unit.

For single units, a 50 man conscript squad will put out 150 shots at short range with First rank fire second rank fire.

26 Slugga+choppa boyz
3 Big shoota boyz
1 Stock nob

27 str4 shots, 9 str5 shots
118 attacks on the charge, with 112 being WS4 str4, and 5 being WS4 str5.

So a total of 154 attacks =or>str4. Good luck surviving that.

10 Chaos Terminators, all upgraded to Aspiring Champions with pairs of Lightning Claws. Icon of Khorne.

60 Lightning Claw attacks on the charge. 50 without the charge. All wrapped up in Terminator Armour. 520ish points.

Alas, not how it works. You can only combine Platoon Infantry Squads, as they are the only units with the 'combined squad' special rule.

If you want Vehicles, take a squad of 3 Punishers with heavy bolter sponsons, heavy bolter hull weapon, heavy stubber pintle mount for 105 shots.

Yep, yep!

30 death company can put out 120 attacks on the charge, with the sanguinor and a chapter banner nearby that can go up to 180.

Add in the pre assault bolt pistols and that 210 attacks in total.

30 Slugga Boyz including a nob with PK accompanied by Ghazghkull Thraka and Zogwort who just casted Warpath and charged

29 Boyz (-1 for upgraded nob), 5 attacks each= 145 WS4 S4 attacks
Pk Nob=5 WS4 S9 attacks
Thraka=8 WS6 S10 attacks
Zogwort=4+D6 attacks WS4 Poison attacks that wound on a 2+

Also not to forget the slugga/pistol shots before hand and Thraka's Big Shoota in the shooting phase before the assault.

30 ork slugga boyz pull off 30 slugga shots, then 120 cc attacks on the charge. Four of those are pk attacks.

In Theory, any BA Dreadnought with Blood Talons. It can throw out an (theoretical) infinite number of attacks until the enemy unit croaks, but you would need to be EXTREMELY lucky to pull this off.

EDIT: To try and actually get that many attacks with a single BA Blood Talon Dread is in no way practical or wise. But it deserves an honorable mention.

This would have to be the best case, but its completely possible if you deffroll a rhino and explode it and make the marines pile up and roll a burna wagon up behind it. Hit all 10 with a flamer template from a 16 man burna wagon (15 burna boys, 1 mek boy w/ burna). 160 hits and a ton of wounds after.

5 beastmasters with 5 khymerae each on the charge

4 attacks per khymerae group on the charge = 20 x 5 = 100
plus 10 more for the 5 beast masters so that is a 110, not too shabby.

Points wise (and dollar wise) it would be pretty ridiculous, but it would be fun to pick up 20 dice and say "okay, I am rolling this 5 times"

A max squad of BA DC, with Lemartes, and within 6" of Sanguinor, will roll 150 attacks on the charge, re-rolling failed hits and wounds.

Full Black Templars Crusader Squad clocks in at a measly 80 attacks on the charge (with bolt pistols shooting!), albeit with preferred enemy. I think Helbrecht deserves an honorable mention, as the man can get 11 attacks if someone charges him, or when he charges! 4 base, 3 from his sword, 2 from Chapter Banner/1 from banner and 1 from charge. The only other 2 models I've seen that can match that is Lelith and a blood taloniso dreadnought.
