Plummeting Black Templar Thunderhawk Pilot

After a discussion I had with some guys at the FLGS,several of them commented on the fact that the Black Templars are the only successor chapter to have their own codex at the minute. While I love the templars and they will always be my favourite army, I found this a little strange myself - i'm just glad that GW decided to go with them as opposed to their big brothers (the Imperial Fists).

So I pose the question: Lets assume that GW is contemplating updating the BT codex, but making it either a new BT codex, an Imperial Fist codex (with BT as a successor chapter, and some different rules), or a Crimson First codex (with some other alternative rules). Which would you like to see and why?

Obviously i'm going to say the Black Templars - my favourite thing about them, is that Fluff-Wise they are continuing the great crusade started in the days of the Horus Heresy, and this makes them stand out for me. I'd be really interested to hear other opinions though!

Black templars. They are psychotic zealots based on what I know about them, more psychotic than everyone else. Sounds better than just about everything else.

honestly?
I would prefer one marine dex for all loyalist marines.

But for this topic: black templars. They actually have something special, rather than being smurfs in dark blue/yellow armor and are stubborn for some reason

I'd say imperial fists, then all the successor chapters (excluding balck templar) could use those rules instead of the space marine codex.

Well, I'm not sure what's to be gained by an codex. As I understand it, they fairly rigidly follow the Codex Astartes, so the Vanilla Marines book is a good outline for them. It would be interesting to get more backstory and fluff, and perhaps you could throw a few special rules in or another IC, but I'm not sure there's really a whole book there. Unless your goal is to turn C:SM into Codex: ...

On the other hand, the are strong candidates for their own codex: they're the largest organized contingent of marines (Lexicanum lists 5000-6000 scattered BT in the galaxy), and as marines on a never-ending crusade they are on a completely different wavelength than other Astartes.

However, I find myself more and more drawn to the idea of a single, comprehensive marine codex that finds some midpoint between separate codices and ICs that merely give tactics. Say, one "chapter" of the book devoted to each of the loyalist legions and the chapters that descended from them, a handful of special rules and ICs. Obviously would be priced differently than our current codices, but I think it would be a more efficient use of GWs time and our investment in the game.

Black templars as they stand would suit another codex as they have already such established fluff while the others have great history but fleshing them out for an actual codex could stretch them thin and just make whoever writes it include silly characters and rules that are only there as filler for anew book? I could be wrong but that's just my take on it, although having small chapters on each in a new vanilla codex could work better?

I'd like to see an Imperial Fists codex that reflects their mastery of seige warfare.

Crimson and Imperial fists are straight Codex Marines. I would like to see more characters for ALL of the marine chapters, but i don't see the need for either to have a codex.

I'd rather see less marine codexes. The choices we have here don't warrant their own codex imho. I think marine Chapters should be distinguished more by characters than Chapter traits. At least from a gaming perspective.

I extremely disagree with you there Uhlan, characters do define a chapter but so does their traits. You couldn't have the BA without their Sanguinius-death-vision gene-seed flaw, or the Crimson Fists and their stubborness to having gave up Rynn's World to WAAAGH!!! Snagrod.
As to the voting, I do agree with the fact that both fists, Crimson or Imperial are Codex lovers and follow it so why not just use C:SM so I vote for the BT just because of how mencing and cool they are
