Hello everyone!
So i am having a very hard time deciding upon witch army to go with. due to the fact i would be starting from near scratch cause i lost most of my models while moving several years ago, i though perhaps it may be fun to explore another team instead of picking up ork again. so after much debating with myself i have got it down to 3 separate options! a deathguard chaos space marine army (nurgle being my favorite chaos god), a imperial guard army, or a fairly shooty based ork death skullz army. Please weigh in with pros and cons!! all feed back is appreciated!

Quick question - What's more important to you? Competitiveness? Conversion possibilities? Having cool minis to paint without having to do any sculpting? Etc...

I reckon you should get the guard army, so many options and who doesn't want to support the Emperor!

This, and another question. Is price a factor?

i am looking for a cool army with options, price is some what a factor but not a big one. i will use the army and would hope i can make it some what competitive, but that is less important than having cool models that i enjoy the idea of, and can have a some fun with painting and what not. I would like to be able to make my army effective but look good together as if it all belongs together.

My reasoning behind each army is
Deathguard i enjoy plaugmarines and would make a largely infantry based army and just think it would be a fun army to play, and i really like the color scheme of the death guard. i think between the demons and mass plauge marines it would be a interesting change, and would look cool when assembled

Death skull ork army would be very shoot large mobs of shoota boys and lootas i think with big guns and some vehicle support. i think it would be fun to throw huge mobs of screaming orks upon the field again it was fun when i started and think it would be fun again. would probably go a more big mech rout this time

and i threw imperial guard in there because i do enjoy them and figured if i was going to make a mass field of ranged mobs imperial guard are one to consider in the mix! and i like lemon russ tanks and commissars and of course rattlings.

thanks for all the posts!

I'd go chaos....but i'm biased and too lazy to paint a horde army.

hmmm you make a good point... my ork army would probably have around 90 units of infantry combining the boys and elites... for a 2000 point army

I voted Imperial Guard, but from what you've written it sounds like any of the armies would be a fine choice.

Chaos rules the close combat tally, Orks only thing going for them is the Cult of Speed, Guards strength is in Armor....So...I say "Come join the Darkside...It will be a hoot"

Chaos rules you all drool! Blood for the Blood God!
10,000 pts Black Legion
2,000 pts Traitor Catchian Guard (1067th).
8,000 point Sam Hain Eldar.
2,000 pts Squat Biker Force.
1,500 Orc Hoard (painting for a friend).

Ork's obviously.
Sure, they aren't the #1 competitive slot, but they CAN be competitive, best conversion options in the game, good at everything, character, and tons of deals on the internets.

I'd also go for chaos given your current idea. Long range foot horde guard isn't terribly competitive, and having an army of shooty orks charging sounds silly, at best.

If you want cool models, low cost, and lots of charging, the CSM is probably going to be the best of those three.

I have a feeling you have never been on the receiving end of two mobs of 30 Orks shooting @ roughly 60 shots, and then assaulting for roughly 90 CC attacks.

Silly is the last word I'd use for that.

Really?

30 shootas kill 4 guardsmen, and then they charge in for 26. 30 sluggas kill 2 guardsmen, and then they charge in for 35

Shootas kill 30, sluggas kill 37.

Being able to take down an extra squad of guardsmen on the charge seems more than worthwhile to me, especially if the guardsmen are in cover.

Only 90? That's not an ork army!

Heck, my Black Legion Chaos army has 70 infantry!

Classified, vermilion level clearance required.

I would recommend the IG. Their armour is awsome, their infantry, although weak, can be devastating when used correctly (In large numbers) and also there is plenty of conversion work when it comes to IG, those Cadians and Catachans really don't look that good. There truely is to many SM forces, I would never suggest them to anyone (No, putting chaos in front of the name doesn't change anything ). Ork armies are nice, but a shooty one? I don't want to offend but you may be laughed at
