Link to Reuters Story
No one claimed responsibility for the blast, which coincided with an upsurge of violence on the Gaza border that has led to fears of a new war between Israel and the Islamist group Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip, after months of relative quiet.
Medics said three people were seriously hurt by the explosion, which hit one of the main routes into central Jerusalem in the afternoon, shattering the windows of a nearby bus. A woman in her 60s died in hospital.
Police said it was a "terrorist attack" -- Israel's term for a Palestinian strike. It was the first time Jerusalem had been hit by such a bomb since 2004.
Absurdly stupid Political Correctness on display at Reuters.
edit: Here's the link to Reuters Canada, which also carried the story, in case the original is taking forever to load.

Political correctness?
I'd say that's precisely the opposite of political correctness. By directly referencing Palestine the sentence can be interpreted as either unjustly implicating Palestinians in the absence of evidence, or expressing hostility to Israel by questioning the terrorist nature of the attack.

You know what I mean.
The artillery barrages into Gaza might be roughly aimed at a Hamas member or two but more often that not just flatten a few hundred square yards of densely populated space. Its about as indiscrimiate than the terrorism Hamas proports, and thus is terrorism itself.

1. I don't care. Syria is the new Black.
2. As indscriminate as random rocket attacks or targeting bus bombing or killing a Jewish family with a gun and a knife in their own home?
3. See #1 above. The Israeli/palestinian conflict is strcitly page 3. they'll have to do better than that to get to Page 1 again.

I wonder if biccat will post any stories of the Israeli violence. Given that around ten times as many Palestinians die at the hands of Israeli violence, we should see a lot of stories in the next few months.
It couldn't possibly be the case that he only cares about people on one side of the fence. Surely not.

Which is following a poorly targeted Isreali air strike in palestinian territory that is believed to have killed several families including multiple children. Just sayin'. Automatically Appended Next Post: Frazzled wrote:Orlanth wrote:You know what I mean.

Reminds me of this from a few years back. Galloway is a bit of a blowhard but he sadly makes some good points, at the very least he wears his bias on his sleeve unlike sky which from my understanding is the fox news of the UK. Let's face it, Hamas doesn't exactly have what western powers would consider a military. It's the old story of controlling terminology, mines become the scarier sounding IEDs and so on.
Who's to say the old lady wasn't the target of the Palestinian military/intelligence services and everyone else was just "collateral damage". Obviously I’m being facetious (gaza doesn’t exactly have the resources to have either) but my point is even when the “terrorists/freedom fighters/islamofascists/violentdouchbags” or whatever you want to call them attack military targets like the bombing of U.S.S. Cole there’s a tendency for the media to refer to it as a terrorist act, which I find odd if their goal is to be unbiased.
Again, it’s up for debate whether it’s possible for a journalist to be completely unbiased without having any real perspective at all. If you keep it short and sweet and to the facts it doesn’t generate hits or sell papers, it’s also a little bland. With that said, Reuters is obviously trying to remain as unbiased as they can. I don’t really see what’s wrong with that. People will always want a simple narrative and a black and white situation that's easier to comprehend than the extremely complex reality.

Even if you report the murder as a neutral event, you demonstrate bias merely by placing the event as more newsworthy than a cat getting stuck up a tree. The point is not to remove bias, but to understand it and endeavour to give as full and as accurate as possible a telling of the events. Or if you're of anoter persuasion, to realise "bias" is the best get of jail free card in the world. I'd be impressed if people commiserated with the terrorists less.
If Palestinians didn't celebrate in the streets when something hideous happens I'm sure people would be more sympathetic. The violence perpetrated by Palestinian Terrorists is so counter-productive. They claim that they commit these acts due to Israeli aggression but the only thing they accomplish by committing their terrorist acts is encouraging more airstrikes and further Israeli settlement in Gaza which then triggers more terrorism.
Gah.
