Is paint coming off of corners and such of pewter models just part of the territory, or am I doing something wrong? I'm just handling them, not knocking them against stuff... and the paint is still just... coming off.

If they're not varnished, yes it's just part of the territory.

Aye, metal models chip easily. Using a good primer and varnish alleviates the issue somewhat though.

I prime my model with my airbrush, then I basecoat it with my airbrush. then I apply watered down liquitex matte medium and let that dry. once that's dry you can continue to paint as normal and I haven't had any paint chipping since

Okay, thank you. I may do as Kronkle says and basecoat and varnish, then paint and varnish over all of it again.

Yeah definately seal your models. I dont know if your question is related to chipping after you have completed painting or during the painting process. My technique with pewter is pretty simple. First I handle it with care throughout both aspects of painting and playing. When I paint pewter though, I tend to give it light sprays of sealant coats after I have finished major portions of the model (exp after basecoat, highlighting, details, skin tones, etc). I find this is a great way to keep the paint on the models and prevent cracking or chipping. Best of luck!

Yeah I get the same problem with my metal models, it doesn't seem to be an issue with plastics though.

I mean as I am painting. I always seal my pewter ones when the painting is finished. I may have to apply varnish to the basecoat just to give the paint something decent to stick to.

Also, there is a slight film on some pewter models from the molds they're cast in. I always wash mine in warm soapy water before applying any primer or base.
