While playing a club game yesterday my BA unit assaulted a unit during turn 4 in a capture and control game.

My unit was composed of 10 Assault Marines, a Librarian, and a Sanguinary Priest. Each of the ICs were declared part of the unit during deployment and moved together out of a Land Raider prior to assault.

Everything didn't go as expected and I lost the combat by 1 or 2.

I was then told that EACH of my units had to make a break test. He said that because of the wording of the rule on page 44 reads as "each" unit as it can be described when chosen on the FoC, " Units that lose a close combat (ie, they suffer more wounds than they inflict) must pass a Morale check to hold their ground if they fail they must fall back."

So I had to roll three leadership tests and failed on the Assault Marines, while my Librarian and SP sat there stupid faced. Is the guy right? Or is this warping the words of the book to suit your purpose.

This is wrong, because even though the IC is treated as a separate unit for attacking and being attacked, it is still part of the unit after combat once again, so only one test was needed, and you take the highest leadership.

If he tries to argue tell him to look at pg 49, where it states the IC's are separate for resolving attacks, but once they have been resolved, they are once again treated as normal members of the squad.

Best DE advice ever!!!

You're going to get violated, and your best bet is to go willingly to get it over with faster.

And on a totally different topic:

See page 49, notice that your IC becomes a normal member of the squad again after attacks have been made, which is before you calculate combat res.
