This arose after reading the new Codex, but I guess it can be applied elsewhere in the game, nothing specific about this power.

Psychic Communion, C:GK:

This power may be used at the start of the Grey KNight movement Phase. If the test is succesful, the player may add or substrtact 1 to any reserve roll made this turn. Cumulative uses of this power stack.

Can a Brother Captain use this power if he is held in reserve, hence not on the table ?

Thanks a lot.

As per other psychic powers/abilities, they can only be used by a model on the tabletop unless otherwise specified.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

Only by models on the table as it's a psychic power used in the movement phase.

if it was an inherent ability like the IG officer dude it would work from reserves, but it's not.

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

To be fair, that is not actually stated in the rules for Psykers. Psychic shooting attacks pretty much, but not for psychic powers/abilities.

However, the reserves rules state the model is available after it arrives, which strongly implies it is NOT available prior to that. Which makes selecting it in the Movement phase awkward at best.

Yeah, would certainly need errata before it could be used that way. As it stands, no, you wouldn't be able to use it unless he is on the board (which actually seems appropriate considering the army and the fluff around the ability). I think its intentional, but the FAQ/Errata may prove otherwise (the FAQ shouldn't allow it, it should have to have specific rules that allow it, which it currently does not have; errata could fix it though).

I was under this impression also, except I can't find the rule which prevents it. I'm looking for a page number kinda thing.

Try looking at an Eldar resource. They can't use their psychic powers from reserve.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

INAT FAQ v3.2, page 19, section: ORGANIZING A BATTLE: MISSION SPECIAL RULES: RESERVES (PAGE 94)

RB.94B.01 – Q: Do special rules for models in Reserve still affect the game? Are models in Reserve vulnerable to special rules that affect all models?
A: Models off the table have no effect on the game unless a rule specifies otherwise [clarification]. Conversely, models off the table are not affected by any rule unless specified that it affects models off the table

Kirsanth - I wasn't trying to imply it is in the rules for those powers or for special abilities. Merely that it is generally the case that powers or abilities do not become active until on the table for the reason you stated.

You don't need to be told you can't do something in 40k. You need to be told you can.

I've never seen anything that says models in reserve can take psychic tests.

Gotcha. It read a bit oddly since it is not actually in the rules for abilities or psykers.

f74, while that is true it is not really helpful for general answers.

You are told that psykers can. It never actually says they have to be on the table, or they could not use powers from inside a transport.
