Subject: Which Leman Russ varient?

I just bought myself a new demolisher kit, and I'm wondering which guns to put on it.
My army is very foot-guard powerblob and so far I only have one other (regular) LRBT
(Plus a valkyrie, hellhound and chimera)
This leaves me lacking in anti-tank, apart from a few heavy weapon teams, though I do have a reasonable amount of meltas in my platoons / command squads
My main opponents would be Orks, MEQ, and Tau
I'm thinking I like the 3 Plasma blasts of an Executioner cannon, but the large blast of the demolisher is also nice.
Will the kit go together with the barrels left un-glued and interchangeable or won't it stay on?
What about sponsons?

The executioner is very nice it just costs alot you gotta add the plasma side sponsions on it making it 230points but it hurts
Can't go wrong with the reg battle tank vanilla

My best suggestion is to magnetize the thing. If you do that, the parts stay on well, and you can use any of the varients, even ...sigh... the punisher. I don't know why you'd want to but its nice to keep your options open. I even managed to magnetize the sponsons so I could remove them too

You should be able to magnetize the barrels, my friend did. Personally I would build it with Magnetized Executioner/Demolisher Cannons, Magnetized Plasma Sponsons, and Hull Las Cannon. I really like running 2-3 Demolishers w/Plas sponsons and Las Cannon, it is a fantastic tank with great killing ability. Your AT should be taken care of with Melta Vets.

Yes, making the russ interchangeable is the best thing to do.
As for which to take, I've found that throwing in a few meltaguns/bombs makes your average blobs good enough against vehicles. The only problem I've run up against is vehicles I can't catch with a blob.
Against all of these targets, the best buy is the exterminator, which is why I've been fielding a majority of these guys when I've fielded russes as of late.

Executioners are always, always amazing. I disagree with the sponsons though... keep them cheap and keep them mobile.

Russes lumbering behemoth special rule alows them to fire all weapons and move 6" so it's still mobile plus 5 templates is really nice
But your right it's not 100% needed

Ok... I'm not sure if you've ever read the Lumbering Behemoth rule, but it clearly states that it can simply fire the turret weapon in addition to any other weapon it is usually allowed to fire. Thus, if it moved cruising speed, it can fire one weapon (as per usual) in addition to the turret. So if you want to be able to move, one turret weapon plus the hull gun.

Play with the demolisher and plamsacutioner. See which works best.
In terms of magnets...I magnatized my main weapons, but with the new kits you really don't need any magnets. It's well designed, and tension will hold in all the weapons. Go ahead and mount the sponsons, and if you don't want sponson weapons just leave the guns off. If you ever want sponsons just stick the choosen weapon in.

I thikn you mean Combat speed (at cruising speed a Leman Russ can't fire at all (and moves slowly)). At combat speed you can fire the turret + one weapon Stationary you can fire all weapons. I'm expecting it to be a target too, so it sounds like a goood idea to have a few extra guns in case some are damaged - also if it becomes immobilised and can't move that just makes the choice easy to stand still and fire all guns! In terms of range - Plasma Cannons sound lke a good idea to match up with the Executioner Cannon. If I was going to take the Demolisher Cannon though (and hence limited to 24" range anyway) the cheaper and more powerful Multi Melta sponsons would be a better choice right? The sheer weight of fire of the Punnisher sounds cool too - but with a foot-slogging guard army, massed fire is the one thing I'm not short on Oh and... I bought a Demolisher kit, so Exterminator options are irrelevant (Why is it everytime someone asks advice between A and B - there's always one guy who has to say C?)

The Punisher is a whole heaping load of dakka. Heavy 20 certainly *sounds* nice. But it's an H20, long-barrel Ripper Gun. It's not even as good as a bolter (if it did have an AP 4 like a bolter it might have a place in a list though).
As you say, you have enough anti-horde already.
I never field anything besides Battle Tanks (or Demos for cityfight), the other tanks are cool in concept but too expensive in practice. Putting something like the plasma cannon on the Demo adds 25% onto an already-expensive tank, of course it's your call. Because I generally only bring Demos for city boards where LoS is highly limited (so if I have a target it's probably within 24 inches) my experience might not be yours.

Hey, it's not my fault if C is the better choice.
I'd advise you on either A or B, but I don't care to give people advice that's less than the best I can give.

So your best advice is irrelevant. Let me put it another way. When someone says "help me make good use of the models I have", they don't want you to say "disreguard everything you have, and buy the list I use".

do they not sell aluminum or brass tubing in the hardware store?
You have two options. Use uncompetitive junk because it's easy to model, or do what's right to make the best list, even if you have to get your pristine fingers dirty to do it.
If you want advice on your list, I've given you advice on your list. If you want advice on something other than making a competitive list, perhaps you could try the painting and modeling forum, or 40k general discussion.

"Pristine"? where are you getting that from? there's no need to be rude.
If you have no opinion on Demolisher or Executioner, I don't understand why you felt a need to comment - as those are the only two i was asking about.
