Our group is very heterogeneous,
hardcore players (George, Heiko, Markus, Frank, me)
40k-light players or whiners (Peter, Tobi, ...)
fun players playing crappy lists (Eric, ...)
and some gatherers who will never learn it.
Rant over.

Well, we have several knowitall tournament monkeys (John V Mock, Jeremy, Max the psychic vampire.)
the flavor of the month guys who never paint anything, buy half their army horribly painted or half painted off ebay and never have more than 1,250 points. (They don't play regularly enough for anybody to learn their names.)
then we have the veterans who don't give a gak anymore and just play for fun. (Me, two or three Scotts, Troy and a bunch of others whose names I can't remember because they've mostly quit playing 40K and now come on 40K night taking up tables to play Bloodbowl or Flames of War...)
and finally, we have a bunch of irritating 12-15 year olds who don't have the slightest ides what they're doing and generally are ignored.
With the tables that are getting taken up with Warmachine, Malifaux, Dystopian Wars and MtG, it's getting more difficult to actually find someone to play 40K with.

We got a bunch of college guys who spend more time debating rules in the middle of games than playing. And a few Military guys (me included) who play casually and enjoy making up our own little variant mission types/ games styles. We leave the debates till after the game so that we get in more games for fun then we have 1 guy Eric (no lastname) who doesnt know anyone else but comes in and destroys us on a regular basis.

I only have two regular opponents, both of which play IG.

I would LOVE to fight against someone who wasn't IG. Seriously... they're both sound blokes and we don't bicker about rules or anything but my eldar just get steamrollered most times we play.

I could probably win more often if I fielded my SM but they're my old army, I want to play my new army....

Lazy people.

I don't paint. I build the terrain and fund most of our armies. I don't even have arms on half of my guys who don't have special weapons.
My brother has a fully painted excellent quality army but won't paint our terrain.
My other brother shows up once a week with half assembled models and then leaves after the games.

So we play games of half assembled models with pink foam terrain (it's beautiful terrain though!) once a week and I'm the only one who reads 40k forums.

Lazy.

I dont really have a gaming group. It would be nice to get on one though. The few people I know who play are lazy and getting anything up and going is a pain.

Guess I should start a facebook group then lurk the local GW and FLGS's and hand out business cards.

Friends.

No real power gamers or anything. We all get on and enjoy our gaming whoever we play against. No one complains if the other guys army is unpainted or is using a proxy. We all just get on and have fun.

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

We have some competitive strategy-game geeks that love the game. Some hardcore painters that like the painting and modeling part far more than the actual battles but still like to their their creations out for a game. And some newbies who just like the concept and sci-fi in general .

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.

In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos.

Eye of Terra.

We have a great group here. We've all known each other for some time. We are so diverse we jokingly say that we've mustered all the worlds dorks in one place in order to save humanity.

We are all friends beyond the gaming table, but the following are the core members. We have a touring musician, two physicians, a Lutheran minister, 3 guys and 2 girls who work in the auto industry, 4 artsy computer dorks (myself included), a manager of a local 'fine dining' fast food establishment and my oldest friend who works on an organic farm.

More than half of us are ex-military from three nations and our native languages are English, Punjabi, Arabic, Mexican, Black Country UK English and umm, Canadian... (Eh?!)

There's the warhammer-obsessed guy who knows a lot of fluff and mostly only talks about warhammer.

There's the 'I can't decide my army' guy with a lot of disposable money to spend on 4 different armies.

There's me, the fairly casual player who dabbles with the fluff.

Then there's the person who barely plays but likes talking about it because of the crazy IG faction he came up with.

I can sum all of them up pretty easily (I won't use names).

Myself - I have trouble picking an army, and are very hesitant to buy models due to finances right now. I play well, but cautiously, and know most of the rules. I like Tau, Eldar, and IG the most. Currently on Eldar. Enjoy some armies' fluff.

Tank Guy - IG who has several Leman Russes and even a Baneblade. He plays very well and has solid tactics. I rate him best in our group, mainly because he has beaten everyone with essentially the same army. Mech is his forte (obviously) and he wins or loses by their performance. He owns the most models in our group.

Artillery Guy - A kinda poor player, but he doesn't read the rules or even his codex in great detail. He enjoys playing and actually has poor luck. He owns no models, and uses Tank Guy (for he plays IG, with several Artillery pieces in his army).

Tau Guy - Our only guy who owns Tau models, he's been playing them since the start and hasn't stopped. Though he is rather poor as a player, he also is easily the best sport, and I always enjoy playing him. He is the sole reason I have stayed in Warhammer as long as I have.

Evil Guy - He plays Daemons, Necrons, and Chaos, thus his handle. He fields and paints his whole army, and only fields what he owns. He has the most models. He is also a good sport, and plays for fun rather than to win.

Speed Guy - Our second-best player. He plays DE first and foremost, but also plays GK (and 3rd edition, to boot!). The closest we have to TFG. He consistently finds rules loopholes that aren't even really loopholes and constantly works the rules in his favor, even when it's ridiculous and a sliver of common sense and playing by RAI prevents it. I am considering leaving the hobby because of him (and a few other reasons), because our arguments get heated, and I don't want it to affect our friendship.

Ork Guy - Plays Orks. Has read only the part of the rules relevant to him - that is infantry movement and shooting, and independent characters. Runs literally nothing but boys on foot with a Big Mek, and other Infantry he can afford. He loves to shoot with Orks and gets Commandos and Lootas on occasion.

These guys are all my friends. We also all play Dungeons and Dragons together, except for Evil guy and Tau guy.

We are a pretty new group, the four of us. I'm the only guy with a completed 1000pt army, mainly due to limited funding for all of us. I play orks, and win most of the time, but that's probably because 2 other guys have to band togther their smaller forces to take me on, and the guys they use don't really work in congunction with each other. We do a lot of proxeing though, in order to figure out what units we want to field in the future. Lots of house ruling too, because some of the GW rules annoy us.

We have 4 people who have swallowed the "GW is mother, GW is father, GW is THE hobby" philosophy and will not even try another game by anyone else.

We have three who will play ANY miniatures game, depending on whether we like the models (I'm one).

The others are those who mainly play GW games, but are open to using other companies' stuff in their games.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
