Subject: Good Battletech books?

Painting Within the Lines

I've been a fan of the battletech fluff since I first played Mech Warrior 2 way back when in the long long ago. I am curious if anyone has any recommendations for novels that go into detail about the fall of the first star league and formation of the clans. I'd love to read more about the fluff before the introductory box set drops at the end of the month!

There are not really any novels that deal with those time periods afaik. They go from the end days of the 3rd Succesion War to 4Th Succesion War, Invasion of the Clans and onwards.
For the fall of the First Star League there's background material here and there but it's deliberately left mysterious I think.
For the start of the Clans you might want to look at source material that deals with Operation Klondike but I don't own any of it so maybe somebody else can help you there.

Yeah, no novels in that time frame. Operation: Klondike is going to be your best bet.
BattleCorps has some fiction in that time frame, but I haven't checked in awhile. But that requires a subscription and trying to read novels on a computer screen, which I find tedious.

They have a PDF for a few bucks called the "Golden Century" which was during the Star League. That should be pretty close to what your looking for. Any COMSTAR sourcebook should also include a good deal about the Star League as well.

The Golden Century was the century after Nicholas Kerensky was killed. It should be Clan only, with no Star League involvement. Historically, should pick up not long after Operation Klondike.

Remember that the intro set mainly includes Inner Sphere mechs (and the 2 premium Clan plastics granted). So it won't do much for your Clan fix maybe.

Back when the intro-box was announced, there were murmurings that its success would lead to a Clan-box, intended to expand the intro-box to standard rules with the higher level tech. It was rumored to be a similar format to the intro-box, 24 plastics, 2 robust board sections... etc.
With the delays to the intro-box saw, who knows if that's even on the table... though it would make alot of people's day.

It's still on the table. Just with the financial weirdness catalyst dealt with a year or so ago EVERYTHING got pushed back.
Which is why the 25th Anniversary box set is coming out in year 27...

That's good to hear.
What was this financial weirdness then?
