OK. I suck at painting. I know I do, I am in the process of learning. BUT, here are some shots of my DARK colored Necrons. I did Black base, then heavy drybrush of tinbitz, and a lighter drybrush of Bolt metal, and a final wash of Badab black. What do you think? Suggestions? My hands shake a bit so I know details are not great, but Grandma Lee gave me that shakyness.
The scarab pic is the closest to real view of the minis. I really do value the advice. I am much better than I was.
Advice? Comments?
Once I move, I will setup better photo areas.
One last edit, the ends of the guns..... anyone have them? Know where to get them? I love the red rods. I found them on a hobby site and think they are awesome.

it's tough to get a good idea of what the warrior looks like from the pics, but the scarabs and spyder look good. the spyder in particular looks very very ancient, which i assume is kind of what you're going for.
if you're new to painting, then i think doing Necrons is a good idea. you can make some totally good-looking Crons with only the basic skills of drybrushing and inks etc. once you get the hang of it, you could try more complicated stuff.
looking forward to seeing more!

If you need a quick and consistant meothod of painting them:
Assemble the whole model (leave the green bit for later)
Spray chaos black.
Paint the whole model (minus the gun) Chainmail.
Wash badab black.
Wash devlin mud.
Wash recesses again with devlin mud.
Highlight the edges of the gun with adeptus grey.
Paint hoses and power supply scorpion green.
Wash them with thrakka green.
Seems like a long list, but i generally can get 10 warriors finished and based in 2 hours at the most.
Naturally you spend more time on stand out units, but for rank and file crons, its quick and easy.

That gives the standard cron, and that is not what I was after. I did want something ANCIENT. I mean dug in the ground old and coming back to make you sorry you bothered them. I am going to post my Eldar I was working on. Just by reading these Blogs I have found some great ideas.
This Falcon is what I consider my best painting to date.

OK, here is my first ever Ultramarine. I really wanted a dirty (think freaking gun blast everywhere on an assault cannon) look, and want advice etc. As I said, my hands shake a bit, and I know I need to work on that, but advice welcome. He is Dexter. I figure he will kill a ton of dudes....
I am bound and determined to field painted forces. Even if they are my crappy paint jobs..... I do have a unique Necron lord that is on a base with parts of a dead NID on it, that I think I want commission painted. His staff is broken, and his hand looks crappy (I bought him from a SUPER SUPER glue abuser... Anyone want to paint a unique Necron Lord?

First-off I think the Necron look great! -but if you want to get rid of your sloppy ink-lines {which are more apparent on the marine but still visible on the cron.} I would use badab-black after the tin-bitz -before the bolt-metal. If this Isn't dark enough for ya, you could always do what I do with my ultramarines and darken your ink -just mix the badab w/chaos black [about 2:1]

Thanks for that advice. I never considered that. I was in the mindset that ink=last. Keep up the hints. Together, we can at least work to improve my skills.

Oh, about the shaky-hands-
It my be something your just stuck with but I'd like to offer you a couple tips that help me w/my spazy-hands.
1.) Attach single models to something that's easy to hang onto, ie: wine-cork, old paint containers, dowel.
2.)Press the bottoms of the pads of your thumbs together. -This will allow for a small range of finger movement and little else.
3.)Don't pinch your brush -use a light grip.
4.)Avoid caffeine -seriously! it makes a difference!
5.) Lastly, {and maybe most importantly} take a break -this is hard for some of us- but believe it or not the nerves in your hand connect to your spine, so get up, stretch and walk around a little.
-hope this was helpful!

good advice was headed.. Next round of attempts. I was SHOCKED at how many compliments I got on my Falcon and Wave Serpent when I took them to the FLGS. (headed there again tonight.
Anywho, Advice? I used a ton less ink. I wanted bright white purity seals.. All in all, I will not be embarrassed to put them on the table, but I am traying to improve.

I will stop here. I am in a room with only natural light, and the pics suck since as soon as I took the pics it started to rain.
But, better?
