Before picking up the green-skin race i played Tyranids, model's that i've poured time and dedication into, however my tyranid force is not nearly large enough to field as its own army, it lacks structure. Then it hit me. I could build a cave like piece of terrain with a huge bared gate blocking the enterence. Then (for scenario games) i could roll a dice to represent a random Tryranid squad/unit being lured out of its 'cage' and field the unit as if it were my own. Failing that i could build cages from sprew and keep the creatures in there until i decided to pop open the door and unleash havoc. Would this be Legal for part of my army?

Tournament legal? Absolutely not. But for a friendly game? Ask your opponent.

All is forgiven if repaid in Traitor's blood.

I think that completely making up your own rules/placing your own terrain to make up your own rules is meh. But, as said above, ask your opponent. Nothing ever gets done unless you ask questions

I knew it woulld'nt be tournement legal, but i thought it would make for a cool scenario game

You could create some really cool fluff for it too and you could even represent as a showcase army as well...

Perhaps if the creatures weren't synapse, and they would follow the rules for nids that weren't under the synapse control. If you made them a nuetral force, you wouldn't even have to pay points for them. Seems like a fun scenario to me.

I was thinking of having metal collars on their necks, or steel rods through their heads to represent 'Da Mekboy' hammer'in stuff in to their heads as to break contact with the hive mind and have the tyranids fight on bloodthirst alone

So Cal

would deffinately need to be non synapse creatures, but i personally think this would be unique to play against. But ultimately it is up to your oppenents.

I agree, gaunts and hormagants may be able to be passed off, what would look even better is if you had ork slavers like in grot squads with the prods and whips.

Dunno, it'd have to have some good fluff, but it has potential. Perhaps a zany mekboy managed to reproduce the signal that the hive mind uses to control its little bugs.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

I'm working on a Deff Dred shaped like a Carnifex, but made entirely out of scrap metal.

My fluff being that my Mekboy has seen a Carnifex and the awesome power it can unleash, so he'd built a robot one and is going to try and lure the other 'Fexes away and lead them after their enemies.

My brother, who plays Nids, is so up for the idea that he's offered to lend me a group of Fexes. And the balancing rules are this: at the start of every turn the Deff Karnifix has to take a LD7 test. If it fails, it loses its nerve, the Tyranids kill it and rampage into the nearest Ork units...

I love all the ideas, especially the slave-driver and the original one. However, you couldn't use it for anything official.

This is a looted Carnifex.

I think as long as you stick enough bitz on them to make it look like the Pain Doks are through lobotomizing them, it ought to be fine.

Dirty Harry wrote:I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

Heck, that's sounds brilliantly fun!

If you wanted to use 'nid models in a (not so fussy) tourney, even, you might look into the 'slaver' thing, using a Nidboy'd up Nob driving a 30 strong swarm of Gaunts or Gants at the enemy, for Counts As's.

And the Mekafex sounds brilliant as well.

Orks can in no way tame themselves, how could they even think of taming anyTHING else?
Perhaps eldar, tau or some imperial "St@rcr@ft" admiral I met some time ago, but orks... I think not.

They don't need to tame it, just make it think that it's better off attacking something else. Separated from the Hive Mind, most Tyranids revert to instinctive behaviour.

And it'd be just the sort of random violence the Orks would find humorous. That's actually basically what Squigs are, after all. There's even some suggestion that Squigs are the result of 'nids tampering with the Orky genome, trying to make something that'd kill them from the inside. Orks love the little things!

This right here?

This is why I love Apocalypse. This concept would work just fine in Apoc. which has a lot more freedom for fun and zany army combos!

Edit: not sure why spell check tripped over combinations, but then again, it does look funny...
