Question came up with my gaming buddy, is the Forgeworld Ork Warboss on Warbike tournament legal in regards to it using a larger base size then normal bikers? I've tried Google-ing this specifically and on this forum but couldn't find anything.

Well, that's the base he comes with, so yes it must be legal.

Only the TO of the tournament can answer that.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

I'm just curious since I don't know how Forgeworld models are handled, if they are considered just like any other GW product, or, frankly, as just conversion pieces.

I'm pretty sure it says somewhere in the rules you can always place a model on a bigger base, but never a smaller one than supplied. Obviously, "apply common sense here".

Page 3 of the rulebook says you may use a large base if your opponent gives you permission.

"Use the Base it came with" is the rule.

this applies to FW models too as they are a GW owned and operated company.

a Warboss would have da biggest and da best bike around since he's da biggest and da best ork around

I know three people fielding the FW model and none of them ever had a problem with its base. The other way around, someone complained on my Warboss(selfbuild) that his base was to small and refered to the FW one. You're pretty much on the safe side, as its the only official model for a biker boss in existance.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.

thats because the vast majority of people have the incorrect notion that FW models and rules are always over powered.

this is true in about 10% of their products. the other 90% are overpriced and under powered or just right(and the stuff thats right often ends up in Codexs like Valks, Vendettas, and the remaining 80% of the IG vehicles)

however, we can't play favorites and so all FW stuff is banned from most national tournies.

local tournies will sometimes allow the rule sets on a model by model basis.

and yes, GW owns Forge World just like they own Citidel Miniatures.

You are most likely only allowed codex units at your tourney. As most FW stuff is only found in IA releases or the like, most of it is banned. It is perfectly fine to field a FW model for codex unit (like a warboss on a bike), that GW supplies no model for. For example you'll often see FW manticores or chimeras used by IG players.

Most any model is allowable in most tourneys(check with the TO before hand, or the tourney rules; Even when Torney rules state X models are not accepted you can sometimes get a TO to OK it still: YMMV).

That said i have never seen nor herd of any tourneys that disallowed FW Models. Rules yes, models no; especially since FW often makes the models for some units that GW doesn't.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

Using FW models is fine. Using FW rules requires your opponent's (or in the case of a tournament, the TO's) permission.

So a forge world biker boss is fine.

And that's a good thing, because the FW Biker Boss is one of, if not the best model in GW's entire catalogue. It's one of my favourite models, and mine is my pride and joy (right next to my Death Korps of Krieg Company Commander and Quartermaster).

Of course, if he stopped losing in close combat to Firwarriors and started actually being useful, he'd be even better.
