Here is a short piece of fluff for a space marine chapter that i made up. The beginning is set just after the end of the Horus Heresey. The legion had 20 companies Please reply and tell me what you think. Thanks!
The Serpent Warriors
The Salamanders' Chapter Master was in grave danger. An Ork Waaagh! was ready to attack his homeworld. And he knew that this could be his final battle, so he would need to decide who would succees him. It came down to two Company Masters. Ta'Shala, of the 6th Company and Van'Vek of the 14th Company. But he could not choose between the two of them, though he knew that he had to. But then he made his decision. The Emperor had said that legions would have to be split up into groups of 1000 men called chapters. he had 20 Companies, enough for two chapters. Ta'Shala would succeed him, but Van'Vek would recieve one half of the legion, a new chapter.
The Chapter Master did indeed die in that campaign and another chapter was born, a successor chapter. Its Master, Van'Vek named it the Serpent Warriors. This chapter was almost forgotten as over the years it was wittled down to only a handful of men. This is why there are no oisted Salamanders successor chapters. But it managed to get itself back to a normal chapter's size, almost in secret and in the 41st Millenium the Chapter Master is Ka'Vela, also known as Chief Admiral Ka'Vela (rules in 40k proposed rules). He and his chapter take refuge on the planet Minartus, where they are frequently under the attack of Tyranid hordes.
Note: This used to be a different piece of fiction, called Chief Admiral Ka'Vela, so the first two comments are to do with that, which can now be found in dakka fiction, not 40k background!
