The artwork is nice and shiny and all, can't dispute that. My problem lies more in the concept......

If the Emperor categorically did not want to be worshipped as a god, WHY IN THE BLUE HECK WOULD HE AND HIS CRONIES DRESS LIKE GOLDEN GOD WARRIOR DEATH ANGELS??!!
Space marine armour + tanks n' guns etc looks at least like it might have ancestors that were cool and high tech, kinda what FW are trying with the Maximus and Heresy suits. The point is imperial tech has been perverted over the course of 10,000 years of paranoid fanaticism and veneration.

The horus heresy shoud, visually at least, remain a mystery. PLEASE RETCON!!!

+It makes 'canon' the charming but ridiculous old rhino chasis and rogue trader bolters, flimsy things that have no place in a coherent Sci fi universe. They are better left in the hands of collectors and those who dig retro.

That is all. The prosecution rests.

Not a very cool story bro.

Enlist as a virtual Ultramarine! Click here for my Chaos Gate (PC) thread.

"It is the great irony of the Legiones Astartes: engineered to kill to achieve a victory of peace that they can then be no part of."
- Roboute Guilliman

"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."

Why RETCON?

Are you too young to appreciate the history of 40k?

The HH novels are to provide filler for fluff bunnies.

Also, FW is not doing NEW armour, simply making the RT/2nd Ed armour variants available for modellers again.

Well, there's an argument that the big e only said he didn't want to be worshipped, but may have had other ideas. Anyway, thats another thread, my point is that questioning why their armour should be so over wrought and magnificent etc, precludes the fact that sm can be a tad arrogant sometimes...

As for wanting heresy era imagery to remain a mystery, well the sales of the collected visions book might suggest that there's a Market. I for one enjoy seeing what someones interpretation of a pre heresy chapter, e.g. Thousand sons looked like.
If it annoys you so much, why not allow your eyes to go out of focus til you've turned the page and started reading.

I only wish I could get my hands on Collected Visions...

I'd suspect that if the Emperor portrayed himself as a poor pilgrim or something like that he'd command less respect and thus have less influence. People would rather follow someone who looks like a great leader and capable of protecting his own than someone who looks like anyone else and looks just as weak. As for the Space Marines, Power Armour is the best armour able to manufactured for them, and they look like knights, not like angels.

What planet is going to want to join the Imperium, with it's foremost warriors dressed as ordinary soldiers? That's not especially intimidating.

This thread died beofre it even got started.

Anyway, just don't look at it. Imagine the art isn't there. The rest of us will enjoy it and take it for what it is.

Let the galaxy burn.
