I recently purchased "Open Fire" (for people that dont know it's the Flames of War starter set comes with mini rulebook and 5 tanks) When I opened it I loved the tanks but then i looked more closely at the German Tanks (stug gs) and the armor plating on the side of each had a bit of chipping, i was prepared to just count it as battle damage. Then today i was reading the mini rulebook and the front cover and a few pages just slid off the back, while it was in my hands . I have not treated roughly at all in close to brand new condition and it just fell off. Now this i feel like gives me reason to go to my FLGS and exchange it for a new set. I still have receipt and box, everything it came with. Do you think it would be acceptable to ask for a complete replacement?

Thanks

Absolutly. Go ask for a exchange. Your FLGS should swap it with another copy and then send the bad one back to the distributor. Check your new copy in the store, make sure its not a bad batch and that the new one falls apart also.

The stugs are well documented as being broken on the side armour. I've only seen one out of about 12 that has not had the problem, it is simply down to inadequate packaging so even if you get a replacement, you'll have the same problem.

The book is more unusual but older prints of battlefront books are known to have problems with their binding. Replacing it with a copy from the same print run (at your FLGS) would possible have the same problem, but if a spot of PVA glue will not fix it for yourself, then it might be worth doing.

You can also email battlefront's customer support and they will send you a good quality replacement in exchange for you sending the old one in, but this is not ideal as it is the other side of the world and takes some time.

Thanks for the replies, yeah i have read around and everyone says the stugs are almost always chipped so i figured i wouldnt make an issue, but the rule book just falling apart it a little bit ridiculous in my opinion. So my thought is return the whole thing and try my luck at getting decent stugs.. and a better book. The whole situation is kind of a bummer...

@legoburner

I would try to glue it, if i had used it a lot and fell apart from use, but it was my second day of reading it and it just fell apart, i feel like that qualifies a new one.

I would return it.

Not at all.

Its just that in the BR you really seemed to have enjoyed the game, then it seemed as if you were returning it?

Easiest way to fix this problem would have been to go to staples and have the book spiral bound. Regardless of how "well" you treat this book the cover is going to fall off, its the downside to the size of the book. It happens eventually to ever rulebook this size.

i had the same thing happen with my Open Fire set, i was going to go the spiral bound route as well.

i did manage to fix the StuG IIIs, lucky for me i had one out of 2 boxes worth that had an undamaged side.

i covered the undamaged side in watered down Chaos Black and quickly pressed it against an index card. this left me with an outline of the schurzen.

i then used a dremmel tool on low to sand off all of the schurzen. i cut out the outline on the index card and used it as a template for some plasticard that was almost as thick as the original schurzen.

once i had all the plasticard cut i used the template again on thin plasticard. once i had those pieces gut i cut them in 4 to match the plate lines and trimmed any extra overhang.

they look pretty darn close to the originals.
