I read the excerpt of the book and I gotta say a book with both Tau and White Scars is really interesting to me. But I'd like to know what others thought of it before I buy it, does it put the White Scars in a better light then Hunt for Valdorious did because that book was horrible.

Reading Hunt for Valdarious made me lose faith in Black Library, which was redeemed with Dead Men Walking. The excrept for Savage Scars makes the book seem rather predicatable though. If you read it let us know your opinion.

Andy has a different writing style to some of the other authors. I really like the more structured military feel, and the frustration that causes in the book. It's all horses for courses, I cringed a bit at some of the books people rave over.
I enjoyed it and have no problem recommending it at all.

I have read it and found it enjoyable.
It might not have been writing itself, as much as the description of an area of action and/or the re-acquaintance with characters we have seen before.
AH focuses on the Damocles Gulf Crusade the same way that Dan Abnett does with the Sabbath Worlds and Henry Zou does with the Bastion Stars.
I can easily overlook some hamfisted writing when it teaches me more about the given theater of operation.
Of course and as always YMMV.

I've just finished it myself.
Not great, not bad - just your pretty much bog standard BL offering.
Not much expansion to white scars, just mentions of their homeworld & how the whitescars don't really hate the Tau and think of them as noble warriors.
Tau portrayed as pretty much as you'd expect - awesome weapons but useless in hand to hand, which is where the Kroot get portrayed.
Tyranids get a mention at the end - just prior to their attack on mcCragge.

Fighting on with dignity,
In life and death we deal,
The power and the majesty,
Amidst the blood and steel. |
