I'm new to WH Fantasy so please excuse the simple question.

I'm using Army Builder which lets me equip both a great weapon and shield for a Warrior. Since the GW is 2 handed how can this be and when can the increased armor value be used?

It means you'll get the increased armor value against shooting, but not in hand to hand.
