I'm planning on bringing a Thunderhawk Gunship with a Turbo-laser Destructor to an Apocalypse battle. Orginally I wanted to take it to soak up 900 points that I couldn't fill on account that I ran out of models. As I read more into the rules and datasheet I really fell in love with the idea of it circling the field, strafing and bombing anything in it's path. Can someone who's used one tell me if it's as cool as I hope it is? And maybe give me some pointers on how to use it?

edit: I also plan on filling it with a 10-man squad of assault marines. I know vanilla codex assault marines are kinda meh, I'm just doing that for the lulz.

They are pretty nice, espically frustrating because fliers are a bugger to shoot down.

I should also note that I will likely be facing a Chaos Warhound Titan. I believe that'll be the biggest threat to my air support.

A funny quirk of the rules for shooting at flyers makes it virtually impossible for most titans to shoot at them at all. They don't have antiaircraft mounts so the only weapon they can carry that won't automatically miss is the vulcan megabolter. That weapon gets 15 tries to hit on a 6+ and then glance AV12 on a 6+ and then you get a cover save.

Thats why I bring like 10 mega-bombers. AV12 all around with either 20 stormies in the hull or a ton of bombs. Tons of big shootas. And 3D6 lascannon shots a turn w/ 4 structure points IIRC.

Thunderhawk is pretty beast. Expensive, but beast.

Yeah I'd say keep it flying. Chaos doesn't have a lot that can bring it down.

If he has a lot of rhinos, though, each can take a pintile-mounted combi-weapon, which has the AA rule and if he makes them all plasmaguns, he could cause you problems. Just stay away from those. Your Thawk should be able to bring down the shields with lascannons and then land your turbolaser against the hull.

Yeah unless your opponent has brought anti-aircraft weapons, he's going to have a hell of a time shooting the Thunderhawk down.

I'll try and talk my brother into doing a battle report, that's kind of his thing. Thanks for the tips everyone.
