I've been playing VC for around a year now. I'm still slightly unsure of the proper interpretation for the "Vampire" rule. It states in the final paragraph of page 35 in the VC codex that "Vampire characters are wizards...A Vampire is a level 1 wizard...". In paragraph 3 page 38 of the VC codex it states "All Vampire characters...know the Invocation of Nehek spell...". Now in the VC FAQ it states that Konrad is not a wizard although he does have the "Vampire" special rule. That confuses me because isn't he a character and a vampire? The Varghulf technically a character with the vampire special rule...would it too not be a level 1 wizard? Blood Knights are not "characters" but are "vampires" therefore are not wizards?

I haven't used the Varghulf as a wizard but it seems to my interpretation it should be. But the whole VC FAQ with Konrad not being a wiz left me a bit aprehensive about the Varghulf and it too probably wouldn't be a wiz either. Clarification/Interpretations please?

Varghulfs are NOT "technically" characters. Konrad is NOT a wizard - have a read of his background, it explains why. His specific rules override other rules.

i thought this too when i started playing until i realized they were talking about the vampire and the vampire lord only. varghulfs are just vampires; they aren't wizards. this is so they can always march and so you can spread out the "within 6" of a vampire" march bubble.

All right thanks guys! That's kind of what I figured. I'm glad to know, now I can drop my blood knights put two necros on my two corpse carts and grab a white king with the battle standard!

How about Black Coach's. Lorewise there is supposed to be a vampire in it and even when it gets to level four it states "Blades and fangs glow with green witchfires as the vampire within the black coach regains his strength" would that make it a wizard and able to cast invocation? Or is the Vampire special rule only there for the March?

No. It is not a Character - only Vampire CHARACTERS get to to cast.
