-is it present at all in the 40k universe?

i'd imagine the first faction to discover it & harness its power correctly could be at a huge advantage & disadvantage due to the fact that other races would want to destroy or take it for them selves

I suspect nanotechnology may be at work inside the STC machines, but the IoM doesn't know about it and would not be able to understand it.

You would think the Eldar would have nanotechnology but they don't seem to.

The Tau will presumably invent nanotechnology given time. Of course, the timeline doesn't advance so that won't happen.

At base, 40K is "space fantasy" rooted in pre-1980s SF before nanotechnology started to be a common idea in the genre. It didn't start to become popular until after 1987.

Clearly any faction which developed nanotechnology would have a colossal advantage.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

There is flluf for the Necron using nano-tech isn't there?

I think I recall reading about microscopic spiders repairing falling warriors etc.

Since the 40k universe is so vast and we know next to nothing about day to day activities, I reckon some things would be made of nanotech. Probably some expensive treatments to extend the lifespan without augmetic parts. Ceramite or Plasteel may have been created by altering the structure of some other sci-fi material.

I'm sure there's some nanotech involved with digital weapons.

I had always imagined that nano tech is a manual process within the IoM. That would explain why they sometimes have really nice toys, but they are rare-rare. AdMech Adepts and servitors building GK equipment, one specially selected, just right isotope, atom at a time taking generations per item. But that is just a wild ass guess on my part.

Eldar wraithbone and necron living metal are examples of nanotachnology. Materials that can be grown and repair itself could be replicating multicelled organism is a form of nonatechnology.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Wraithbone isn't nanotechnology, it's a psychic construct.

The IoM has many applications of Nanotechnology.

the large biomass reclyclers present in Hive Cities. they take the waste products of the entire city(sewer sludge, dead bodies, leftover food) and turn it into food for the hive.

in the construction of space ship hulls, nanobots are used to align the materials on the atomic levels for the stringest hulls possable.

The Imperium probably has a lot of nanotech but they would just call it magic.....or maybe just heresy.

Psychic construct (ie using the warp) is just using another natural force in the universe. Saying it's not technology is saying something that uses electricity isn't technology.

If it works at a tiny level, then it could be a contender, but I'm not sure it does.

I think that Living Metal (Necron) technology is like Nano-technology of our dreams +1; if anything would be nanotech, Necrons are what I would say have it.

'cron gauss weapons are nano tech aren't they? They strip down matter at an atomic level, which is another reason why 'nids hate them, as they can't regenerate from that.

Technically, Gauss could be called nanotech.

um- no, at least in the Real Life terms...

Nano-tech refers to tiny technology (like microscopic robots).

Gauss effects are magnetic fields.

Of course when you get into 40K fluff its all so much treknobabble anyway

Ive read in fluff were durign the crusades they would come across Humans that had advanced tech, such as shields, hovers, etc, etc, You would think the would Take soem of what they come across and use, But If its not broke dont fix it i guess... I mean the Ig are still useing a tracter as there main battle tank.

Hey look buddy, I'm an engineer; that means I solve problems.
Not problems like 'What is beauty?', because that would fall within the purview of your conundrums of philosophy.
I solve practical problems.

The science of Nano-Technology is being formulated as we speak. While not completely functional, the science is there. It seems to me that Nano-Tech is a fairly 'low-level advanced tech' in the grand scheme of such things (like sci-fi). Something that we may see in regular use in the next decade or so in our own Universe.

Actually I think there is a form of nanotechnology in the Adeptus Mechanicus-- that is, there's a specific type of blood replacement (not transfusion... they actually replace the techpriest's blood with this) that gives them incredible regenerative powers and toughness.

I doubt they know it as nanotechnology, but I think that's what it actually is. And certainly there's heretek stuff that has nanotech.

Yes, its supposed to be more effiecient than blood but that could just be a type of chemical.

Maybe Nano-tech is what Machien Spirits actually are?

in Mechanicum some of the techpriests had this aura thing they could use to communicate with each other....i forget the name now. Could that be interpreted as a form of nano-tech?

Virtual Intelligence. Sorry, using Mass Effect Language. Basically an AI that isn't sentient. The Citadel actually has the same laws around AI that the Imperium has.
