Maybe not 100% wargamingr elated, but it is geek/sci fi/fantasy orientated anyway..
In the wake of the devastating earthquake that struck Japan on March 11th, the world looked on in horror. We all saw the footage of the destruction caused by the initial earthquake and its aftershocks, and we were appalled by the sheer force of the tsunami it triggered–not to mention the threat posed by damage to Japan’s nuclear power stations, and the ongoing humanitarian crisis which has developed in the country.
We all felt so small and so far away – but were united in our desire to help.
Genre for Japan was set up by members of the speculative fiction community with one goal: to do what we can, however small.
From 28th March 2011, we will be auctioning special, rare and unique items donated by people who love genre just as much as you do: trust us – you don’t just want these things. You need them. You do. What are they? You’ll just have to wait and see…
All proceeds from the auctions will go to the Japan Tsunami Appeal run by the British Red Cross. In the interests of transparency, we will be posting full details on a separate page on the site as we progress.
http://genreforjapan.wordpress.com/about/
that link will take to more info about the operation.
There's a handy list of the lots for perusing here : http://genreforjapan.wordpress.com/item-index/
Might bag yourself something cool and help out a worthy cause at the same time.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Nice idea here. Who thought wargaming would help the victims of a tsunami?

It's a term often used for 'harder' science fiction. I.E. the opposite end of the spectrum from 40k. No FTL, or at least it has to try to make sense by the laws of physics without much handwaving.

No, I fight against nuclear power and other environmental risks for years. And the original Godzilla movie was also a warning against the danger of nuclear power and the hybris of man. But the warning was obviously forgotten, now people are dying because of a lying government and lying nuclear industry.

Nuclear power is an issue I can see both arguments for and against, though I have to say I am impressed that those reactors have been through such an enormous earthquake and haven't had more trouble then they have. Especially when you consider how old they are.

No. Godzilla was a Dinosaur that was still alive on a Japanese island and he became Godzilla after being exposed to the radiation from the Atomic Bomb. Reactors would have been fine if the 30+ foot wall of water hadn't knocked out the pumps/power.
Regardless, it's off topic for this thread.

Not in the original film; he was just a walking metaphor initially.

Nah, that's out of style now. The proper PC term is "differently abled," for this month at least.
