Gonna Dakka the crud out of my brothers Tau army, and i wondered what Dakka recommends?
He tends to run a Crisis suit heavy army and will almost certainly be bringing a couple of Broadsides, with the rest filled out on Stealth suits or Fire Warriors.
I can choose from:
PA Captain, Librarian, Chaplain
TDA Captain, Librarian
10 Assault Termies
10 Tactical Termies
2 Drednaughts (1ML, 1Assault Cannon)
4 10 man Tactical squads with rhinos
2 10 man Assault squads
3 man Scout bike squad
2 Land raiders
2 Predators
1 Whirlwind
2 Devastator squads (all weapon options)

Any Thoughts or ideas are welcomed,

Some questions;

How are your preds armed?
How are your Assault Terminators armed?
What weapon options do your Tactical Marines have?
How is your friend with counts as special characters (Vulkan counts as, Lysander counts as, etc)?

Got one pred 2HB, Autocannon,
one pred TL LC with HB sponsons, (can counts as)
Termies are 5 TH/SS, 5LC but can 'counts as' either way
can take any heavy options in the tacs(got extra devs for just this reason!)
Any counts as characters are likely to be ok, we're pretty relaxed on that score

I'm not a total noob, but i've only played like 20 games in 5th ed and it's taking a while to blow away the cobwebs!

Given what you've told me and keep in mind I don't have AB at work;

Counts as Vulkan

5 TH/SS Terms in a LR Crusader with MM
5 TH/SS Terms in a LR Crusader with MM

3 Tac Squads w/ Melta and ML in a Rhino

Auto-Cannon/Hvy Bolter Pred
Auto-Cannon/Hvy Bolter Pred
Auto--Cannon/Las sponson Pred

That's probably 1800-1900ish.


You would have to get midfield for this list to be effective---but you would own the midfield once you got there. How many railguns does he have? If he has several----first turn move your rhinos up in front of your LRs and pop smoke (4+ cover save all the way around regardless if he shoots). If he runs Kroot bubble wrap then tank shock into to clear lanes to his broadsides.

Too bad you don't have a pod/sternguard. A unit with combi-meltas would be pretty nice against Tau.

Would this work around an initial push? Move forward early and weather the return fire to dakka the shiznit out of him in my subsequent turn?

Don't think he'll bother with Kroot... He doesn't think they're killy enough against MEQ
He WILL bother with railguns tho, probably with Pathfinders spamming my LRs with markerlights!

Can he use marker lights to reduce the effectiveness of my Rhino smoke?

Yes, marker lights will reduce your cover.

Depends on what you want to do. You can go two routes;


Take Multi-Meltas for your heavy----then move the entire squad midfield, bunker down and shoot a twin linked MM every turn.
Take ML for your heavy----combat squad down----move your 5 man melta squad straight at him

I would suggest option two against Tau----as Eldar/Tau have the speed to reduce your MM coverage.

TH/SS Terminators are always good, always. Tau can Dakka you a bit and make your terms roll several saves (which Dakka does kill Terms regardless of their shields).
What would really go nice in your force are some MM/HF Speeders. They are one of the most effective units in the SM Codex.


But yeah----basically use your 5 man Combat Squads w/ Melta, ML, twin linked MM Raiders and Auto-cannons to open his tin cans----your Terms/Crusaders/Preds can dakka what gets out.

Sounds good to me! I tend to use a GOI libby and a LR to deliver oodles of hammerdeath into... well whoever really! It's become the core of my list but i'm still working on improving my game and it's a rare game that doesn't teach me something... I'll work around this list and let you know how it goes

If you like Gate Libbys, you should consider investing in a pod or two as well. I used to run Gate/Null Zone Libby + combi-melta Stern----and would drop down to Null Zone/kill something----then gate away if they reacted.

That list worked really well, Never tried a Vulkan list before but i certainly will again!
Due to some unforseen delays we only played to T4, but that saw 25% casualities to his crisis suits (2hq w/bodyguard and 2x3man squads), half a squad of fire warriors gone, 4 dead piranhas and 3 dead devilfish. I lost 3/4 of a tac squad and 5 Termies (due to my own stupidity)
