So this past Saturday I went to the Hobby Tournament at the Comic Shop Plus in Newark, run by Daniel Corbett. It's a neat format because 65% of your score comes from your painting and converting abilities. The games are just icing on the cake!

There was also a single model competition, which is great being able to pit your skills against other local painters.

Here's a shot of about half of the tables rolling dice and yukking it up.

A rare Dark Angels sighting!

Warboss Headkeepa and his faithful squig, Ballkeepa.

A sign of the end times: A Slaaneshi daemon army fighting a Khorne daemon army, with both sides being commanded by Tzeentch!

Tyranids chew up some mech guard after being bombarded by some forgeworld thudd guns.

My old Necron army finished up by Steve faces off against the eventual overall champion and his orks.

Howling Griffons and Catachans fight over the last transport leaving the tyranid infested planet.

Apparently this combat lasted about 8 rounds with nothing happening, to the great amusement of all.

Single Model Competition

Blood Angels Land Raider

Daemon Prince of Chaos

Ork Pirate Biker!

Howling Banshee

Imperial Inquisitor

Great Daemon of Slaanesh

My entry, a horror of Tzeentch, aka Mr. Creamsicle.

Commissar Yarrick

Typhus, the Herald of Nurgle, who ended up taking first place!

My Army

My list:

HQ - Daemon Prince w/ Mark of Slaanesh, Wings and Lash of Submission
ELITES - 4 Terminators w/ 3 Combi Meltas and Reaper Autocannon
ELITES - 4 Terminators w/ 2 Combi Meltas, Twin Lightning Claws and Reaper Autocannon
ELITES - Dreadnought w/ Missile Launcher & Heavy Flamer
TROOPS - 5 Chaos Marines w/ Meltagun in Rhino w/ Combi Melta
TROOPS - 5 Chaos Marines w/ Meltagun in Rhino w/ Combi Melta
TROOPS - 10 Chaos Marines w/ Plasmagun & Missile Launcher in Rhino w/ Havoc Launcher
FAST ATTACK - 3 Chaos Bikers w/ 2 Meltaguns
FAST ATTACK - 5 Raptors w/ 2 Meltaguns
HEAVY SUPPORT - Defiler
HEAVY SUPPORT - 2 Obliterators
HEAVY SUPPORT - 2 Obliterators

Game 1 vs. Necrons

Well game one we had to set up on the short table edges, and being a deployment very unusual to me, I simply decided to keep everything in reserve. My opponent was going first, so I didn't really take pictures of the first two turns, as there wasn't much going on. Here is where the board was at the start of my turn 2.

I got on about 75% of my forces, and proceeded as close to then 'crons as possible. The obliterators and the terminators were able to wipe out the destroyers in the open, while the daemon prince lashed the scarbs and lord hiding behind the building into combat. The scarabs were wiped out and the lord went down in combat.

In my opponents turn 3, his lord popped back up, while a squad of his necron warriors arrived from reserve. His shooting was pretty dismal but managed to kill two terminators and put a wound on the prince. The nightbringer had fired his little weapon but rolled a 1 to wound. The lord charged the defiler, got three penetrating hits, and rolled a 1, 1 & 2.

In my turn three, the other oblits can down, as well as all my troops. (not pictured) The daemon prince proceeded to lash the warriors out of the building, who were jumped by everybody and got wiped out.

The monolith and nightbringer move around to get shots, while another squad of warriors walks on the board. The nightbringer managed to fail to wound yet again, while the monolith only brought down 2 terminators.

My last turn saw the destruction of the last warrior squad, which caused the necrons to phase on their turn 5.

Doug was a great guy to play against and I hope to see him again sometime in the future!

Game 2 vs. Necrons

Necrons again, only this time they were lead by the deceiver, who looked like the nightbringer, so it was extra deceiving! We set up like so, with me having the first turn. My opponent did not seize the initiative, and we were off!

My forces run up as fast as they can, and then the daemon prince lashed the destroyer squad a massive eleven inches! The other squad of destroyers died to obliterator fire, before everyone that was in range assaulted.

My opponent moved his units around a bit, and his turn one saw a stunned rhino and two close combat weapons blown off of the defiler.

In my turn two, the defiler assault the heavy destroyers, the raptors assault the necrons in the trenches, and the daemon prince lashed a unit of warriors close and assaulted them.

Here is a picture of my daemon prince whiffing with all 5 of his attacks!

Turn 3 didn't see much action save my prince running down the warrior squad he previously whiffed on, and my turn 4 saw him get to grips with yet another unit.

Unfortunately I missed a turn in there, but this is what it looked like in turn 5 before the necrons phased out. The scrum in the middle had lasted much longer than I anticipated due to the deceiver throwing my guys out of the party, but between the prince, the terminators and the defiler they killed enough to win the game.

Larry is a semi regular opponent of mine, and we always have a great time beating up on each others armies. This time was no different, other than the fact that he had just finished up his awesome Necrons the day before!

Game 3 vs. Orks

Game three I was paired up against orks, which I always seem to have trouble against. I set up first and was ready to shoot the heck out of them, when the sneaky gits stole my initiative!

With my initiative in enemy hands, the orks all ran straight at me, without a care in the world. The dreadnought and kans were particularly excited, as they both rolled a 6 for their run!

The defiler decided that he wanted to dance, so moved up and got ready to pounce on the survivors of all the nearby meltaguns.

My turn one saw my dreadnought bloodrage, probably due to the fact that my opponent was from michigan. These ohio dreads are finicky like that I guess! Not to be outdone by a bunch of grot trash cans, he also rolled a 6 for his run! The bikers and raptors managed to destroy 2 kans and the dreadnought, while the terminators reaper autocannon stunned the looted wagon. The obliterators only managed to kill a few tankbustas, softening them up for the daemon prince.

In the turn 1 assault, my daemon prince slaughtered the tankbustas, while the defiler and kan failed to hit one another. The blood raging dreadnought set his sights on the ork warboss Headkeepa, and knocked his head clean off! With their warboss dead, the orks fought amongst themselves and didn't do anything to the dread in return.

In the ork turn two, the meks mob smashed the bikers and stomped up and down on the broken defiler, while the other mob of orks ripped the claw off of my dreadnought, although they couldn't bring him down.

In my turn two, the terminators charged down at the newly arrived kommandos, killing three with their shooting. The daemon prince lashed the grots (yeah yeah stop laughing!) closer to him and the terminators, while the obliterators did nothing.

Laugh all you want, but these were some tough grots! They managed to cause 4 wounds on the daemon prince, but luckily for me he saved them all. After that it went downhill, and they were cut down as they fled.

My opponents turn 3 saw him call a WAAAAGH! which caught my raptors, who were ripped apart and tossed in hot sauce for a snack. The terminators managed to die to a man in the combat against the kommandos, after having done 1 wound in two rounds of combat!

The last turn of the game saw me jump on the objectives, killing a bunch of orks and the last trash kan, but it wasn't enough. In the end I held two objectives while the orks had 1, while I had 1 table quarter an the orks had 2, and tied with only 100 vps difference. I wish we had been able to get past turn three, it would have been interesting to say the least!

All in all a great day of gaming, and loads of beautifully painted armies!

The overall winner ended up being Damons Orks, while I placed 2nd Overall only 2 points down!

Best painted went to the Howling Griffons of Jeremy McClung, and send best went to Allen's Valhallan Imperial Guard.

Best Sport went to Marcus Baxley of Michigan (my round three opponent)

Best General went to Jason Garner and his Space Wolves.

Many thanks to Daniel Corbett for such an awesome day!

My god they both had a ton of boyz! It's been a while since I've seen that many orks, usually they are all crammed into battlewagons lol!

BTW, which army did you bring? I'm just not familiar with your username/face combo.

Thanks,

Well the pairings were randomized all day, so pretty good since there were THREE necrons players there, lol! That's why the hobby events rock, they let all the armies come out and play!

It's a sad thing you didn't get past T3, we ended T7 when you started T3.

Holy crap, really? Wow guess we were really slow then! Oh well, I haven't laughed that much in a game of 40k for some time, so it's ok in my book!

It was most likely all my fault there Dave, it takes time to slogg those gitz round da field! It was a blast too! Almost wish your rolling was a little better because if you got a victory, we both would have scored more points! You of course would have scored 1.5 points higher than you did, which would have made you get 2nd place by only .5 points. Talk about blue !

Well I always enjoy blaming others for my failures, so I accept your apology, lol!

I'll take a great game against a great opponent that ends in a tie over a few extra points anyday.
