...Amy Adams
Daily Telegraph wrote:Adams, 36, will star opposite British actor Henry Cavill, 27, who will play the Man of Steel.
"There was a big, giant search for Lois," director Zack Snyder told the Los Angeles Times. "We did a lot of auditioning, but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it."
Adams was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress this year for her role as Charlene Fleming in boxing drama The Fighter.
She was also nominated in the same category for her role as a young nun in Doubt, and for the 2005 film June bug.
Other credits include the 2007 Disney hit Enchanted and Julie & Julia in 2009.
The new film, Superman: Man of Steel, due for release in 2012, will be the sixth big screen instalment in the series.
Lois Lane has previously been played by Margot Kidder and Kate Bosworth.
Several big Hollywood stars were said to have been interested in taking on the role this time.
Kevin Costner and Diane Lane will play Superman's adoptive parents.
Cavill previously screen-tested to play the Man of Steel in the 2006 movie Superman Returns and was also considered for Batman and James Bond.
This seems reason enough for a gratuitous Amy Adams pic

It will have no connection to earlier movies. There will be some origin, though how much is uncertain, though I think it will be minimal, ala The Incredible Hulk.

On the one hand...
The Christopher Reeve films have the origin side of things well and truly sewn up. With Batman, you could argue that the story hadn't really been told on film (flashbacks aside), so Batman Begins was kind of justified in that sense. However, everybody knows where Superman comes from and what he's about. And for those who weren't around in the 70s/80s, then Smallville is basically one long origin story.
On the other hand...
If you're going to completely ignore the existence of the previous films (as Synder recently said he would) then it's difficult not to start from scratch. I suspect he will touch base with the Superman's beginnings.
Now, let's have another gratuitous Amy Adams pic...

Second the JD reboot.
Just need to find a worthy actor and director for such a monumental waste of our entertainment dollars.

Any Adams.......I.......am..........underwelmed. A clear case of acting talent winning out over talent.
I suppose I can enjoy this film for its "plot" or whatever. [walks out in a huff, but not before adding]
I understand that there is a JD reboot in the offing btw.

It's not a remake. Bhaz Luhrman's Psycho is a remake. This isn't a new take on any of the previous films. I also don't agree that becuase it has nothing to do with previous films that it has to have an origin story, or at least not more than 5 minutes of origin. This isn't an obscure character after all.

Yes, but we're talking about a character who has more versions of a backstory than anyone else: Will he be Superboy pre-Metropolis or will he become Superman only after saving the plane? Was Lex Luthor a childhood friend or not? Will there be a Krypto? Did his powers develop as a child, during his pre-teens, or during high school? He may not be an obscure character, but that doesn't mean his origins are as well defined as, say, Batman or Spider-man. The amount of times his origins have been retconned make telling it necessary.

Not really. Details vary but the basics are the same, and no it isn't Superboy or they would have called it Superboy. Krypton explodes, parents send him to Earth where he grows up to become Superman. That is the same every time. You can make Krypton look different but it still dies and he is still sent off to Earth and raised by the Kents. By your reasoning the fact that they were watching Die Fledermaus in Batman Begins instead of Zorro like in Year One makes it a radical different back story when it isn't. Martha and Thomas Wayne get shot in front of young Bruce and it scars him. The rest is piffle.
Elseworlds don't count as they are not meant to be anything definitive. Red Son isn't a definitive Superman story any more than Gotham By Gaslight. They are fun what if stories.
