I have done some research, but have yet to read the mechanicum related books to get a lot of the information, with the strict fervour and zealousness of the adeptus mechanicum, is it possible that they could fall to chaos, potentially due to chaos marine intervention?

this question comes about as I try to develope fluff for my Black Templars army and I thought a fallen forge world would be a fantabulous enemy. The idea is that several small crusades have come to refit and join together before the start of a new crusade, they have found that the forge world has turned to chaos and they then must clense the world, being first responders a call for assistance is sent, but at the point I am no help has arrived.

My thoughts is that the alpha legion has infiltrated the planet and subversivly convinced the fabricator general that the emperor no longer works for the greater good of mankind, and that they must go rogue, but the true reasons is a new front for a chaos incursion, a foothold situation if you will. The Black Templar crusade (unnamed as of yet) must now fight to eradicate the heresy and clense the world, but they are only a relativly small force that must rely on swift raids and lightning strikes to wage an effective campaign against an entire forgeworld.

Fighting a forgeworld necesitates the templars to raid a manufactorium in the very early stages and steal several dozen newly built suits of terminator armour to effectivly fight the renegade forgeworld. this will give reason to why I play the terminator wing style of the black templar army.

so after all of this rambling I have some questions;

could a forge world fall in this way?
would the BT be able to hold their own in swift raids with only a few strike cruisers in the arsenal (and a the requisite excorts)?
what is the likelyhood of the crusade being able to steal the terminator armour?
what are some good names for the forgeworld and thus the crusade?

If you all have any questions ideas comments etc, please help, I want this to be legit and unique, not just your normal BT or space marine vs. chaos thing, a potentially new twist or direction for home-brew fluff.

You may use anything I post, just remember to give me credit if used somewhere else.

That was during the HH, 10.000 years ago. Today, the forge worlds are defended by Skitarii, IG Regiments and Holy Navy.
Since that planets produce supplies for the troops and some of them have their own copy of STC, they are now heavily guarded.
Some of the most important are even defended by Titan Legions.

For Emperor and Imperium!!!!

The Emperor doesn't have a GKs unshakable faith in the Emperor which is....basically himself?

It's quite possible for members of the AD to fall to Chaos, a huge chunk of it did during the Horus Heresy and among them was the Fabricator-General of the entire Mechanicus at the time. Today there are still traitor Titan Legions running around.

The description of your Forge World's fall is more then possible imo. However I'd add some more "logical" reasons into it in order to fit the nature of Tech Priests. Perhaps this particular Magos is embittered from a past experience where the Inquisition called exterminatus on a world being overrun by an enemy (Orks/Tyranids/Daemons/whatever) even though there were un-recovered STC's on it? It would be more believable for him to listen to Chaos if he had a grudge against the Imperium's government to begin with.

As for the Black Templars in this whole thing, I think the BT's force will ultimately be a bit small. A Forge World is a huge establishment that could field billions of skitarii/workers/servitors as troops. Even the lightning raiding tactics of the Space Marines would not be able to do much with those kinds of numbers up against them. My advice would be to give them some kind of "fast" support, such as Stormtroopers or Elysian Drop Troops.

Lastly a random name I came up with: the Forgeworld Caminus Prime.
