Having returned to DakkaDakka recently, I've been busy uploading old projects to the gallery. But here's something new: a historical commission I'm doing for a client who wants a whole brigade of French Infantry for games of Black Powder. I just finished the first two bases of six:

Great work really impressed by the eyes... Will there be Infantry and Cavalry as well?

The whole Bde is two Line Battalions and two Light Battalions. The Bde Commander and his ADC will be mounted but, unless I get a repeat from the client, this lot will all be infantry.

They're Perry Miniatures 28mm plastics - except for the command group, which are metal.

I've got a new photo set-up and it gave a rather poor result, so while I fiddle with it, I couldn't be bothered to edit the image all that much.

Prehaps post these in the FOW/Historical section, these sort of things tend to get lost n the 40K Plogs and drop off quickly otherwise.

Prehaps ask a MOD to move it?

That just wouldn't be right. A painting log in a discussion section? It makes me feel dirty just thinking about it!

Huzzah! Second Line Battalion is done... well nearly.

Both battalions, to be fair, have elements of touching up that have to be performed before they're finished beyond question.



The ensigns still need to be glued on, and there are a few bits of detail here and there - tassles on the swords of the flank battalions, straps, boots etc - that just need that last once over. However, I can now turn my focussed attention to the Line Battalion skirmishers and the brigade officers.

Thanks to all those whose input at the start was so essential to getting the details right and for teaching me, along the way, not to get too obsessed with the details because, at the end of the day, they're never bloody right because they were never right in the original battalions to start with!

It's been fun and hard to paint this many essentially-identical models, but for the next four months I'm packed out with commissions that are almost exclusively Warhammer 40,000 (broken only by a DBA 15mm Macedonians army that's being painted by our new Freelancer, Simon, and some FoW tanks painted by me). I suspect that, by October, I'll be longing for Napoleon.
