Subject: Wolf Lord / Fenrisian Wolves Question
|
 |
Spawn of Chaos
|
Recently I played in a 40k tourney and one of my opponents playing space wolves had 3 Wolf Lords on Thunderwolf mounts, with Storm Shields, and 2 Fenrisian Wolves each.
I would shoot/attack his wolf lords and he would allocate the wounds to the wolf lords and make the wolf lord saves (3+/3+i), if he failed a save he would remove one of the two fenrisian wolves saying that "they are wargear so he can do that".
Is it true that you can make the lords save and then remove the wolves for unsaved wounds? If this is true then you have a 5 wound monster.
Thanks in advance.

Nope, they just make a little unit with the Lord essentially so you assign wounds normally to them. They also make the Lord T4 as well by the majority toughness rule. You can get singled out in combat as well, they are not a retinue.
Them being wargear means you can join units with them etc.

Violence isn't the answer, I just like getting it wrong on purpose. |

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you can't assign wounds to wargear. I play that exact list he does and I treat them as if they were troops. Shield drones for Tau operate similarly and you have to take the save on the gun drone for it to sacrifice itself for the unit. The wolves should operate no differently.

You have to take the model's save you assigned the wound to. If you take the wolf lords save, he will suffer the unsaved wound. If you take the fenrisian wolf's save, it will take the wound.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

QFT. I play SW and Thunderlords regularly; the Fenrisian wolves, while Wargear, create a unit WITH the TWL so they take saves. Also if he has 2 of them with the TWL and no other attached TWC then the majority toughness of the unit is indeed 4 for the purpose of rolling to wound.
