So I was looking around GW's site and I came across this terminator captain in the space marine section:

This is probably a very dated model (well before my time). However in the description it says "model supplied with a 25mm base". Now I realize that terminators used to be based on 25mm, and got bumped up to 40mm in 5th. However, per the "base supplied with model" rule, shouldn't this guy be tournament legal? He is still for sale on GW's site, so its not like its an ancient model that you bought 10 years ago.

What do you guys think? Technically he is legal, but I just want other people's thoughts.

He doesn't even fit into the 25mm base, his feet hang off. I think this figure was made around the time of 3rd edition. I'd probably put him on a bigger base tournament or not.

The whole 'supplied bases' and 'tourny legal' thing is such a load of bs mostly stoked up by WAAC players. Whatever happened to the simple concept of putting figures on bases they actually fit on?

I have one of those from when it was released. It's a rare thing for me to actualy base my minis. When I do (and for this guy I have) I'm not really excited about tearing him apart, modding him to go onto a different base (he has a tab for slot bases) and then basing all over again. redo it if you like the look better but don't make me do extra work on a legitimate model. I hate work

ding ding ding! Winner.

Seriously, it's a game of toy soldiers. If you need to put grots on 60mm bases to win at toy soldiers, have fun with that. The difference between 25mm and 40mm for terminators isn't all that important. It appears as though this isn't a game balance issue, for if it was, they'd do a better job of ensuring that all models of a certain class (such as the one listed above) came with the appropriate base.

I have the exact same model, and yes it's from 3rd Ed. I just mount them on a 40mm base and cover the old base with static grass and stuff so it doesn't look so odd.

I don't know about tournaments, but the "bases" rule is probably the stupidest of GW's stupid. I mean, what about jetbikes, who have, at one point or another, been mounted on practically every base GW has put out? What about old dreadnoughts that didn't come with a base or ork bike models (like the ones in AoBR) that STILL DON'T COME WITH BASES? Since you can only shoot by measuring from the base, and they don't have a base, either you can't shoot (or assault for that matter - base to base without bases?), or you can't field these models legally.

Really, this rule is one that is safely ignored, and only brought out in the case of obvious abuse (single grots on dreadnought bases, for example).

Basically use common sense. If it feels wrong then dont do it. There was someone who compiied a hilarious list of rules that just dont work if you go by RAW. It was a fun read.

Plop. All of them are legal too, but if you tried to argue it, most people would probably give you the boot. My personal favourite is the Template Weapon turrets.

On moon miranda.

Yes he's legal on that base. What other models come with has no bearing on how a model should be based when it comes to the rules at least. The metal CSM termi's came with both the 25mm and 40mm bases for a while and thus were legal on either.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

I've got about 20 Wolf Guard Terminator models from 2nd Edition. All smaller bases all pewter models. I am not rebasing them.
